People Are Calling Al Pacino’s Slip Up At The Oscars Last Night The Biggest Mistake Since 2016

It wouldn’t be the Oscars without some kind of mistake or slip-up on stage, would it?

Some people are calling this year’s mistake—which no one noticed—the biggest mistake since the 2016 La La Land/Moonlight mixup. Legendary actor Al Pacino announced the Academy Award for Best Picture before it was even given out.

When it was his turn to give the Best Picture award, Al Pacino forgot to mention the nominees at all. This was a big mistake, since Best Picture is usually thought of as the most important award.

Assuming you’re not new to awards season in the movie business, you should already know how the usual process works when it comes to giving out awards.

The presenter, who is usually a well-known name in the business, walks out on stage and reads the entries for the category. Not only does this remind people of who has a chance to win, but it also makes sure that every person gets the credit they deserve.

At the 96th Academy Awards last night, however, actor Al Pacino skipped that important step and instead opened the envelope to announce that Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer had won Best Picture.

Last night, Oppenheimer won six more awards besides Best Picture. These included Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor.

The early announcement by Pacino was a big topic of conversation last night, and people couldn’t help but react. It is important to note that most people found the mistake funny.

“Al Pacino creating a Moonlight/La La Land moment while still reading the right name. Master class,” one person wrote.

According to a second source, “Whatever just happened with the Best Picture presentation wasn’t a La La Land/Moonlight screwup, but Pacino just blurting out ‘I see Oppenheimer here!’ was definitely not how it was supposed to go.”

“If Al Pacino said the winner was La La Land that would have been the best moment of the night,” joked a third.

The talks about La La Land take us back to 2016, when it was wrongly said that Moonlight won the Best Picture award instead of La La Land. Even worse, when the mistake was told, people were in the middle of victory speeches.

It was said that the speaker was given the envelope for Best Actress (Emma Stone won for her role in La La Land) instead of Best Picture.
