Jennifer Aniston’s Candid Comments About Matthew Perry’s Struggles Before His Death
Jennifer Aniston, who plays Chandler Bing on Friends, says she didn’t know how much “anxiety and self-torture” Matthew Perry went through just to be Chandler Bing.
The 54-year-old actor who played Rachel Green, the rich girl who became an adult, on the sitcom said that the Friends reunion shows told her things she didn’t know.
The new information does, however, fill in some gaps.
On the Today show, the star of Murder Mystery said, “I didn’t understand the level of anxiety and self-torture [that] was put on Matthew Perry, if he didn’t get that laugh, and the devastation that he felt.”
The 54-year-old actor who played Chandler Bing on the show talked about the stress he put himself through when the cast got back together for the first time in 17 years.
If he had a supposed joke that didn’t garner the laughter he was hoping for from the crowd, he confessed that he would “go into convulsions”.”To me, I felt like I was going to die if they didn’t laugh and it’s not healthy, for sure,” he said on Friends: The Reunion.
“If I didn’t get the laugh I was supposed to get, I would freak out.” Phoebe Buffay played Lisa Kudrow on the show, which aired in 2021. When she heard the comments, she expressed surprise and said, “You didn’t tell us that then.”
In a different part of her Today interview, Jennifer said that she was dating her co-star David Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller.
She said: “I think there was something about unrequited love,’ she said. “I think David and I loved each other – we love each other still to this day – so I do think there was something that had to do with that.”
“And you were investing in something that was very relatable: the one that you never could have or the one you wanted to be with but they couldn’t quite get it together.”
About two years before Matthew’s death, the star was found asleep in a hot tub.
He was 54 years old. Matthew had talked freely about his problems with drug abuse and the stress it caused him when he had to tell jokes.
He said he took too many opioids when he was 49, which caused his stomach to burst.
Even though experts told his family that he had a very small chance of living, he did and began to get better.
He had so much trouble with drugs that he couldn’t even watch old episodes of Friends.
