Her Legs Are Amputated After Using A Common Household Product – Now She’s Warning All Women
I’ve never heard of anything like the bizarre story of Lauren Wasser, a California model who lost her right legs in 2012.
Most of us can’t fathom how something as seemingly innocuous as a hygiene product might turn into a living hell. In addition, Lauren’s nightmare continues.
Recently, she lost her other limb due to medical complications.
Now Lauren wants to make sure that no other woman has to go through what she did, so she’s spreading the word about the hazards of a common household item.
Lauren Wasser, a model from California, experienced severe flu symptoms in 2012. She wasn’t actually sick with the flu; rather, she had toxic shock syndrome brought on by bacterial toxins.
What brought on this infection? A tampon! When tampons are used and left in for long periods of time, an infection can develop that leads to toxic shock syndrome (TTS).
Lauren was put into a coma by the TTS and remained that way for over a week; when she awoke, doctors had to amputate a limb due to infection. She was the young age of 24.
Since then, Lauren has focused her life to preventing others from experiencing the same trauma she had.
“In a few months, I’m inevitably going to have my other leg amputated. There’s nothing I can do about it. But what I can do is help make sure that this doesn’t happen to others,” Lauren tells The Daily Mail.
Lauren is taking the manufacturer of the tampons she had an extreme reaction to, Kotex Natural Balance, to court.
“Considering that the vagina is the most absorbent part of a woman’s body and is a gateway to many of our vital organs, it is crucial that consumers know the reality of what could happen to them,” Lauren writes in InStyle.
Lauren’s other leg was severed only lately, unfortunately.
The model shared a selfie of herself and Paralympic competitor Amy Purdy (who had both legs amputated) on social media just after leaving the operation room, with the caption:
“Life is about to be so different, again! I’m in great spirits though and ready for my next chapter. ???♀️??♂️ // photo by my love @camraface“
I admire this courageous young woman much. Maintain your resolve and hope as you press on.
