Céline Dion’s Sister Shares Grim Update On Her Sister
After canceling her world tour after being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, Céline Dion’s sister Claudette Dion has provided an update on her health.
Céline, 55, is being cared after by their sister Linda, according to Claudette, who also noted that Céline is working closely with professional researchers on the unusual ailment.
“We can’t find any medicine that works, but having hope is important,” Claudette said, as reported by SheMazing. She stressed the need of recuperation for Céline because she always gives her all in her performances.
She added: “At one point, your heart and your body are trying to tell you something. It’s important to listen to it.”
Stiff person syndrome is an extremely uncommon neurological condition that affects only one in a million persons and causes involuntary muscle spasms.
Céline’s family is hopeful that she will find a rehabilitation approach that will allow her to return to the stage because she has been actively involved with renowned researchers in the field of this condition.
Claudette elaborated, saying, “[Performance] is innate to her, she’s disciplined in every area of her life.”
Claudette has revealed that when she can’t get in touch with Céline, she gets information on the singer’s health from their other sister, Linda, who is currently living with Céline at her Las Vegas home.
Céline’s loyal following expressed their approval of her decision to put her health first after hearing the news that the tour had been postponed in May.
After delaying performances after her December 2022 diagnosis announcement, she ultimately decided to cancel them altogether.
In an Instagram post, Céline explained her sadness at having to postpone the Courage World Tour, writing, “It is with tremendous disappointment that we have to announce today the cancellation of the Courage World Tour.”
She continued: “I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%. It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again.”
Finally, the performer declared, “I want you all to know, I’m not giving up… and I can’t wait to see you again!”
Céline is determined to get better, despite the fact that there is currently no treatment for stiff person syndrome. She is working closely with a group of medical professionals to alleviate her symptoms.
The diagnosis “came as a shock,” a source close to the singer told US Weekly, “but she’s lost none of her fighting spirit and is comforted that at least she knows exactly what she’s dealing with now. There’s comfort that she can alleviate some of the symptoms by getting treatments that are specific for this condition.”
