Emotional manipulation happens all the time and is often subtle and hard to detect. The results of psychological manipulation tactics are often the most visible signs it is occurring. Another person’s control over you can have a detrimental effect on your mental health, exacerbate anxiety issues and lead to depression.
It is impossible to have a healthy relationship when emotional manipulation is involved. A form of social influence, emotional or psychological manipulation, is not a healthy practice. It includes applying pressure to control someone’s thoughts and behaviors through crafty, abusive or other underhanded practices.
Emotional manipulation happens when someone uses deception, or similar mechanisms, to exploit another person’s vulnerabilities to achieve his own goal. An emotional manipulator might talk down your performance at work to make you feel insecure, so that you won’t compete for a promotion. An emotional manipulator may use lies or deception to alter your perception of reality. Their goal is to tip the balance of power in their favor.
Manipulators control other people by exploiting their weaknesses. Discussed below are a few points that will prove it to you that you are trapped by an emotional manipulator:
1. They always feel worse than you
No matter what you do, they will make sure you get to know that they are in a worse condition than you are. Every time you will be blamed for it, even if you have no fault in it whatsoever. By doing so, they try to bring down your mental health.
2. They pay attention to your weakness
They will keep a close eye on you; they will follow your every move and find out your weakness. Then they will just wait for the right time and attack you. They will try to fool you and bring down your morale so that you are broken.
3. They will help only when it benefits them
Emotional manipulators are very selfish people. They will only help you when they get something out of it. If you do not promise them something in return, they will not help you at all as they will always put their needs before yours.
4. They rush everything no matter what it is
They don’t think twice before making a judgment. They rush through everything. Their only goal is to beat you and reach the finish line before you. They will not stop or see the correct facts. Their only goal is to beat you to the finish line.
5. They play the victim all the time
When it is time to face the music, they will never take responsibility for their actions and they will always pin it on someone else’s shoulders. It is never their fault and they show such dramas that people are forced to believe them.
6. They make you feel guilty when you shouldn’t
They will share their problems with you and ask for your help. But when the time comes to return the favor, they are nowhere to be found. They are very selfish and they use your guilt to get their work done.

They will say whatever you want to hear in order to get the work done. They will never fulfill their part of the deal first as they never intend to. They will wait for you to complete the job and then take advantage of you being so naive.
8. They make you out to be crazy
They will never admit to the things that they have done even if you have caught them red-handed. They will deny it to the point till people start doubting you and blame you for the action.
9. They will cut you off from your friends and family
They will make fun of you in front of your family and insult you too. They want to make you seem like the culprit in front of the people that you love so that they can break you down emotionally and then get the work done by you.
10. They will begin controlling the things you do
At one point in life, you will see all that you are doing is to benefit the person who is emotionally manipulating you. They will drive you insane and will leave no stone unturned in order to get their work done.
