Turkish Authorities Deny Heart Removal In British Tourist’s Death Amid Family’s Outcry

Following the return of a mother’s body with her “heart missing” from a family holiday in Turkey, foreign authorities have spoken out.

After a young mother of two passed away while on vacation in Turkey and was brought home with one of her major organs missing, a British family claims they have experienced the “deepest level of trauma.”

On April 27, Beth Martin fell ill on the journey and was taken to Istanbul’s Marmara University Hospital shortly after.

The 28-year-old passed away tragically a few days later, but her husband Luke, who travelled with Beth and their two young children, ages five and eight, accused the hospital of extracting her heart with “no explanation” or consent, and claimed they had another nightmare with Turkish authorities.

According to the Daily Mail, the Turkish Ministry of Health has now spoken out about the tragedy, claiming that Beth passed away from a “cardiac arrest due to multiple organ failures.”

She did not ‘undergo any surgical procedures’ during the hospital’s preliminary autopsy, according to officials, but they did not confirm or refute this when she was moved to the Forensic Medicine Institute for a second autopsy later.

The complete statement continues: “The patient was recorded in the hospital records as a ‘forensic case’ in line with the statement of Martin’s wife that they may have been poisoned by a meal they ate in their country before the trip, and the initial findings.”

“A preliminary autopsy [without incision] was performed at the hospital in accordance with the forensic case procedure and his wife’s request in this regard.”

“The exact cause of Martin’s death could not be determined with the current findings in the preliminary autopsy, which was carried out with the participation of the Public Prosecutor and the forensic medicine doctor.”

“Beth Martin did not undergo any surgical procedures during her treatment at the hospital, and there was no question of any organs being removed.”

But according to Beth’s family, they still have more questions than answers.

Luke claims that while Beth was in critical care, he was “banned” from seeing her and worries that the hospital might have given her penicillin, to which he informed the medical staff that she was allergic.

Police also questioned her spouse about whether he had poisoned her. Only after his release did he receive a written statement informing him of her passing.

Additionally, he says he was only given “one minute, no more” with Beth at the mortuary before he was allegedly forced to carry her corpse bag through the hospital with the assistance of a translator.

After British coroners found that the mother of two had lost her heart, it became much more difficult to transport her body returned home.

‘Removed it’ with ‘no explanation’ or consent, according to a family GoFundMe for the Turkish hospital.

The family further stated that English coroners may take up to six months to ascertain the cause of her organ failure, and that a medical negligence probe has now been opened against The Marmara Pendik hospital for her mysterious death.

On his Facebook page, Luke wrote: “It has been the worst and most traumatic week of my entire life, and to top it off.. I had to break the news to my babies that their mum is not coming home, it broke me.”

As of this writing, the GoFundMe has raised £256,020, or around $346,753. You may donate here.
