The Yankees’ World Series Champion, Reports The Tragic Death Of His 14-Year-Old Son While On Vacation
The terrible loss of his youngest son, Miller, at the age of 14 has been confirmed by former Yankees great Brett Gardner.
Brett and Jessica Gardner said in a statement on Sunday that the teenager became unwell while on vacation, “along with several other family members,” but that “so many questions” still need to be answered.
Gardner played outfield for the Yankees for his whole Major League Baseball career, and he helped the team win the 2009 World Series.
“With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller,” the family said.

He passed away far too soon at the age of 14 after being unwell while on vacation with a number of other family members.
We do know that he died quietly in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st, but we still have a lot of questions and few answers.
Miller was a cherished brother and son, and we still find it hard to imagine our lives without his contagious smile.
He cherished hunting, fishing, baseball, golf, football, and his friends and family. He made the most of each and every day.
“We are so thankful to all who have reached out to offer support and encouragement during this difficult time and we are confident our faith, family, and friends will help us navigate this unimaginable loss.”
“Our prayers go out to Miller’s teammates and friends, as well as to all other families who have lost a child far too soon as we share their grief.”
“Please respect our wishes for privacy as we mourn and search for healing.”
Between 2008 and 2021, Gardner, now 41, spent 14 seasons with the Yankees. He developed strong relationships with people like Aaron Judge and was reportedly well-respected within the business.
Miller was spotted playing football for his South Carolina high school last year. Wearing No. 11, which was his father’s number when he played baseball, he snagged a pass before sprinting in for a touchdown.
A statement regarding the tragedy was also issued by the Yankees.
“Our hearts are heavy, and the Yankees family is filled with grief after learning of the passing of Miller Gardner,” the team said.
“Words feel insignificant and insufficient in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss. It wasn’t just Brett who literally grew up in this organization for more than 17 years — so did his wife, Jessica, and their two boys, Hunter and Miller.”
“We grieve with Brett, Jessica, Hunter, and their community of family and friends in mourning the loss of Miller, who had a spark in his eyes, an outgoing and feisty personality, and a warm and loving nature.”
“Our love for the Gardner family is unconditional and absolute, and we will offer our enduring support while understanding their desire for privacy at this time.”
“May you rest in peace, Miller.”
