The Sooner You Accept These 10 Brutal Truths About Life The Better Your Life Will Become

The world around us has got pretentious and it all owes to the social-media stampede which prevails. The more we know about someone else’s dream life being publicized on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, the lesser we think about the life we are living.

But is it really all roses and rainbows for them? Do our lives really suck this bad? If we think it is the case, we will be stuck amidst these chaotic thoughts and beliefs.

It is no progress and to progress, we need to accept the harsh truths about this pompous life. Here are those realities we all ought to embrace.

1. Others’ opinions do not matter

It’s your life. You know your struggles and successes. Others do not get an opinion. They will always have something to say but don’t pay heed to what they think. Nobody can ever understand your life as you do. And you don’t even have to be like someone else. Being yourself is always enough. Consider how Ashley Graham acknowledged her imperfections and how this acceptance has a boost to her modelling career.

2. Perfection is an illusion

What is perfect? It is certainly relative. What might be perfect for you might not even be close to the other. So, how do you pursue something so biased? You don’t! It is a total waste of resources trying to achieve something which has different values for everyone. Simply follow your definition of perfection and go for what you feel is right.

3. Stop seeking happiness

When we say stop seeking happiness, we don’t mean you don’t look for reasons to be happy. It is just that at times, we try to find joy in big things when, in reality, it’s the little things which bring us immense joy. Embrace these trivial moments of happiness and you will find the glee you were originally looking for.

4. There is no point in worrying

To put it simply, consider what the Buddhist master Thich Nhat Hanh has to say:

“Worrying does not accomplish anything. Even if you worry twenty times more, it will not change the situation of the world. In fact, your anxiety will only make things worse. Even though things are not as we would like, we can still be content, knowing we are trying our best and will continue to do so.”

5. To grow, it is necessary you fail

How do you suppose you will learn if you don’t fail? Failures aren’t the destination, they are the path to success. They teach us what we wouldn’t learn if we succeed at first attempts. Don’t fret failures, but learn from them. Listen to what Will Smith has to say about failure and let his words inspire you.

6. True happiness doesn’t reside in happiness

Sure, your new phone or the expensive dress you bought will make you happy but it will be short-lived. You will find true happiness only in things which aren’t material – those priceless moments we spend laughing with our loved ones or helping out a stranger.

7. Time is money

We get only one life and we have to make the most of it. Money doesn’t really mean anything if you are unhappy. It’s the time which is more valuable, so take full advantage of this very moment and live it as if it’s your last.

8. You are your best investment

Bear in mind that we only have one life and we can’t waste it being someone we are not. So, be the best version of yourself and constantly work on your growth – mentally, physically and emotionally. 9. Not everyone’s your friend

We meet hundreds and hundreds of people. Embrace the fact that you can’t possibly keep everyone happy, let alone be friends with everyone. It is always better to have a small circle of trusted friends. All people aren’t compatible with us. More importantly, friendship is sacred and it isn’t shared with everyone.

10. Life is happening at this moment

Yesterday has gone by and tomorrow is yet to come. Why bother with something which has already passed or something which hasn’t even arrived? It’s of no use. Live in the present and make the most of it. Today is all you have got. There is no tomorrow. Live in this moment because it is all that matters.
