Ozzy And Sharon Osbourne’s Controversial ‘Suicide Pact’ Resurfaces After His Death At 76

Ozzy Osbourne’s tragic death has brought attention back to the ‘pact’ that Sharon had with the rock singer.

Ozzy’s most well-known roles were as frontman of the legendary heavy metal band Black Sabbath and as a cast member of the renowned MTV reality TV series The Osbournes in the noughties.

In an emotional statement, his family confirmed his death on Tuesday evening, July 22, stating that he was ‘with his family and surrounded by love’ at the age of 76.

The rock star’s final passionate social media post has garnered attention from fans, but news has since surfaced about the star’s alleged plan for “assisted death” with wife Sharon.

These allegations, which initially arose earlier this month, were also addressed by their daughter, Kelly.

What is euthanasia?

Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne openly endorsed assisted suicide.

The procedure, which is also referred to as euthanasia, entails obtaining the patient’s agreement before a physician performs assisted suicide.

The patient may be put to sleep gradually by an injection or by the release of gas in a pod.

In any case, since the first use of one of these pods occurred in September 2024, the procedure has been closely examined as a significant ethical conundrum.

What was the ‘suicide pact’?

Because of her personal experience with her father, music mogul Don Arden, whose health deteriorated owing to Alzheimer’s, Sharon Osbourne has been vocal about her opinions on assisted dying.

In her 2007 memoir, Survivor: My Story – The Next Chapter, she acknowledged that she and Ozzy had decided to end their lives if any of them was given a diagnosis of a degenerative brain disease like Alzheimer’s.

They even decided that the Dignitas facility in Switzerland was the best place to visit.

What did Sharon say about the pact?

Speaking to The Mirror in 2007, Sharon further explained, “We believe 100 per cent in euthanasia, so (we) have drawn up plans to go to the assisted suicide flat in Switzerland if we ever have an illness that affects our brains.”

“If Ozzy or I ever got Alzheimer’s, that’s it — we’d be off. We gathered the kids around the kitchen table, told them our wishes, and they’ve all agreed to go with it.”

What did Ozzy say about the pact?

In a 2014 interview, he discussed the agreement and acknowledged that if he “can’t live my life the way I’m living it now…”

“If I can’t get up and go to the bathroom myself and I’ve got tubes up my a** and an enema in my throat, then I’ve said to Sharon, ‘Just turn the machine off,'” he stated.

The rock musician went on to say that he would no longer want to be here if he were paralyzed, adding that if he died before Sharon and their children, all of his will would go to them.

What has their daughter said?

On July 11, daughter Kelly came to Instagram to assert that her parents never truly formed a contract, despite Sharon discussing the agreement once more in an episode of The Osbournes Podcast.

Addressing the claim, the 40-year-old said to fans, “That was bulls**t my mom said to get attention one time. And my dad’s not dying. Stop.”

Additionally, she responded to a film produced by artificial intelligence that showed her father declaring that he was “going to die.”

Speaking about the video’s validity, she blasted, “What the f**k is wrong with you people? Why would you spend your time making a video like this?”

“He’s not dying. Yes, he has Parkinson’s, and yes, his mobility is completely different than it used to be, but he’s not dying. What is wrong with you?”
