Gunman Leaves Note Citing CTE Before Killing 4 In NYC Office Shooting
According to accounts, the gunman who opened fire in an office building in New York City and shot and killed four people left a message at the scene.
A man entered a building at 345 Park Ave. in New York City on Monday, July 28, and opened fire on many individuals. He gravely injured one person and killed four others, including an NYPD officer.
Security footage from the building captured the slaughter, including the moment that Tamura turned his gun on himself, and police have already identified the suspected shooter as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas.
Security footage shows the shooter leaving a black BMW that was double parked on Park Avenue with an M4 rifle before to the attack, according to NYC Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch.

The NFL’s headquarters, Rudin Management, KPMG, Blackstone Inc., and a number of prestigious law firms are all located in the building where the incident took place. Tamura killed someone else and then himself after taking the elevator to a floor.
The investigation is still underway, officials told NBC News, adding that while a motive has not yet been revealed, they are investigating a message left by the suspect.
In the meantime, a source familiar with the investigation told CNN that the three-page “suicide note” revealed his apparent battle with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a brain disorder associated with repetitive head injuries or concussions.
He was a competitive football player in his younger years, according to several sources, CNN reports.
Tamura apparently requested that his brain be examined in the note as well. According to the NYPD, Tamura had a “documented mental history,” but according to two law enforcement sources who spoke to NBC News, he had questioned whether CTE was the real cause of his mental disorder.
In a statement regarding the incident, the NYPD identified the dead police officer as Didarul Islam, a father of two with a third kid on the way.
“Our hearts are heavy. Five innocent people were shot tonight,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said. “We lost four souls to another senseless act of gun violence, including a member of the New York City Police Department, Officer Islam.”
Speaking about Islam, he continued: “He protected New Yorkers. He’s an immigrant from Bangladesh. And he loved this city. And everyone we spoke with stated, he was in person of faith, and a person that believed in God and believed and living out the life of a godly person.”
“He embodies what this city is all about. He’s a true-blue New Yorker.”
Islam, meanwhile, “represented the very best of our department,” according to the NYPD’s Twitter account, and “he was protecting New Yorkers from danger when his life was tragically cut short today.”
