Dolly Parton Reveals How She Keeps the Romance Alive With Carl Dean After 57 Years
Dolly Parton has recently discussed her marriage to Carl Dean and is 74 years old.
The Queen of Country has revealed that she and Dean are still very much in love, and that he frequently brings her flowers at home on their date nights.
In May, Parton and Dean celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Dolly Parton claims that after 54 years of marriage, there is still passion between her and her husband. Carl Dean is still quite the romantic, she said in a recent interview with People.
Dean keeps things interesting by surprise his wife with flowers on their dates, as reported by the Queen of Country.
“My husband and I, we’ve been together 56 years,” said Parton, who met Dean when she was 18 and married him two years later.
“We still have our little times, like in the springtime when the first yellow daffodils come out. Even if there’s still some snow around it, my husband always brings me a bouquet.
And he’ll usually write me a little poem. Which to me, that’s priceless. That’s like a date in itself.”
And when it comes to her husband, Parton understands that nothing beats a home-cooked meal.
“I’ll cook the stuff that I know we love. And I pack it up in a picnic basket. And then we’ll go find some riverbank somewhere with our little camper, park, have a picnic,” she said.
“Or we’ll pull up to some little Days Inn motel, go in as long as the bed’s clean and there’s a bathroom. We just do our little things like that.”
Of course, a candlelight dinner is also in their rotation of dates. “We don’t make an issue of it. It’s like certain days, you feel a certain way. And I’ll say, ‘I’m going to surprise him. And we’re going to have real cloth napkins and real crystal. I’m going to put the real china out instead of the paper plates we usually eat on because we don’t want to have to wash dishes,’” Parton said.
It’s no wonder these two have stayed so in love after 50 years of marriage thanks to regular date evenings like that! It was love at first sight for Parton and Dean, who met outside a laundry.
The “Jolene” singer quipped in April that she didn’t believe they’d make it to the milestone owing to quarantine, but in May they celebrated 54 years of marriage.
“I would say if you’re trapped in the house with him, you might want to be in separate rooms,” Parton told Hoda Kotb on Today. “The reason it worked for me is because I’ve stayed gone. I can’t get away now. I’m stuck there now. I might find out who he is. We may not make it until the next anniversary.”
Humor, though, helped them endure the long months of confinement. She added that she and her husband “laugh all the time” and that this has been the case throughout their marriage despite the fact that “we are both crazy people” with “completely different senses of humor.”
The country singer told People that being confident in herself, especially in the bedroom, was the key to her long-lasting marriage.
“And that’s sexy. You may not want to dress or look like me, you can take from that to be yourself. I’m a very passionate person in everything that I do, and I think passion has great sex appeal,” she said.
“I think people are drawn to that because it’s a magic. It’s an energy. And I’ve always been a great lover because I’m passionate. I just feel my sensuality, my sexuality, my passion, and I don’t have to apologize for any of that.”
