After Months In Darkness, A Blind Pit Bull Finally Sees Her Foster Family—What Happened Next Was Pure Joy
Last week, as Southern California prepared for a historic hurricane, a lone white dog strolled the streets of a neighborhood in Los Angeles, bewildered, covered in ticks, and looking in every yard for the family that had abandoned him.
He was seen by the locals pacing in front of their houses, peering over fences and peeking under gates as though to inquire, “Are you my home?” Everyone offered food, but nobody felt prepared to house him.
“He was just waiting,” said Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy dog rescue. “He wouldn’t leave the street. He was so loyal; he truly believed his family was coming back.”
However, time was running short. Hall hopped in her van and hurried to the area as the storm approached. With a glimmer of optimism in his eyes, the dog raised his head at the sound of her automobile as she arrived. He appeared to believe his family had returned for a brief period.
He encountered a rescuer instead.
Hall could see his hesitation. “It was like he knew I was there to help, but he was afraid to let go, like leaving that street meant giving up on the people he loved.”
Thus, she sat next him. spoke with him. told him the truth.
“We had a long talk,” Hall said. “I told him they weren’t coming back, but that I was here, and I wasn’t leaving without him.”
Hall eventually got the dog, who is now called Scooby, to let him wear a leash around his neck. After getting safely into her van, he did something he hadn’t done in days: he fell asleep.
“He curled up and instantly passed out,” Hall said. “He’s just the sweetest boy. A total cuddlebug.”
After being taken to Camino Pet Hospital, Scooby received treatment for his tick infestation and other conditions from a group of caregivers. The heartache gradually subsided.
Now Scooby is happy and wags his tail. For belly rubs, he rolls over. He’s still recovering and waiting at the hospital, but this time he’s waiting for a true forever home.
“We’re desperate to find the family he deserves,” Hall said. “Someone who’ll never leave him behind again.”
