Tragedy In South Carolina: Ex-Bloomberg Exec And Family Found Dead In Home

The bodies of a former Bloomberg executive, his spouse, and their daughter, age nine, have been discovered inside their South Carolina residence.

Following a neighbor’s alarm, the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office verified that the deaths of Richard Samarel, 54, Lina Maria Samarel, 45, and their daughter, Samantha Samarel, were found in the family’s Greer mansion on Friday, March 28.

There are still little details available concerning what transpired. Although investigators have not revealed how the three died or whether they suspect foul play, they have revealed that they think all three died between 10:20 and 11:29 in the morning.

The sheriff’s office also noted that there is no apparent ongoing danger in the area. “There seems to be no threat to the public,” they said in a statement, per The New York Post.

According to authorities, the incident happened when “other residents” of the house—who were presumably the couple’s other children based on social media—were at school.

“More information will be released at the appropriate time once both the Coroner’s Office and this agency can further their respective investigations of this incident,” the sheriff’s office added.

Richard and Lina Maria reportedly have three children together and had been married since 2009. The family, who were originally from New Jersey, lived in a large home with six bedrooms that was around $800,000.

Richard left Bloomberg LP in 2007 after serving as an equities manager there.

Born in Colombia, Lina Samarel is described as “a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner and a family nurse practitioner” with “experience in a variety of healthcare settings, including outpatient psychiatry for adults and adolescents with mental illness and health and wellness services” in her professional biography on GrowTherapy.com.

“During her free time, Lina enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. Lina also enjoys reading and learning about new and relevant issues in Psychiatry and mental health,” the profile states. She also previously worked for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, per Fox News.

The couple’s nine-year-old daughter, Samantha, was a third-grade student at Dorman School District. She was remembered by those at her school with warmth and affection. “She was a bright light in our classroom,” the school principal said, according to Perry Funeral Home.

The situation is being looked into by the sheriff’s and coroner’s offices.
