Toby Keith Cannot Accept Lifetime Achievement Award
Toby Keith, who is battling stomach cancer, has released a video in which he explains why he cannot receive an award.
Toby Keith broke the disappointing news to his followers this week that he would be unable to attend The SabesWings’ Second Annual Strike Out Fundraiser to claim his lifetime achievement award due to his ongoing battle with stomach cancer.
Fans’ feelings for him have been overwhelming since he posted the video.
At the 2nd Annual Strike Out Fundraiser hosted by The SabesWings in Paso Robles, California, Toby Keith was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award, which he accepted by video message.
At the video, Keith expresses his gratitude for the prize and his disappointment in being unable to personally accept it.
“I’m pleased to accept the SabesWings lifetime achievement award,” the 61-year-old singer stated. “I’ve had a tough year battling with cancer myself and was unable to attend the event; I apologize.”
Keith then extended his gratitude to “all the folks at SabesWings” before discussing the honor further.
“Bret and Kandace choose persons for this distinction based on three criteria: service to a group of people in need, making a difference in the lives of others, and the common thread of working cohesively with other organizations having a goal and passion,” he explained.
Keith mentioned, according MyRadioLink, that former MLB all-star baseball player Bret Saberhagen and his wife Kandace hosted the event.
The event was very successful, raising $1,046,000 for the SabesWings charity, which provides financial aid to cancer patients who need it for medical expenses.
Keith then went on to talk about the partnership between his namesake foundation and SabesWings and how it helps cancer patients and survivors.
“In Oklahoma City, my nonprofit, the Toby Keith Foundation, established the OK Kids Korral.” “We provide lodging, food, and transportation to and from the hospital for children with cancer and their families who stay across the street from the Children’s Hospital,” he explained.
“We formed the foundation to help alleviate that load. It’s a genuine dream come true.”
During this difficult period, Keith’s supporters made it clear in the comments section of his video how much they cared and supported him.
“I saw you three or four times in concert and truly appreciated them. I hope you recover quickly. You are a fantastic entertainer!!!” “Dear Jesus, son of God, hear my prayers, please carry this man in your arms, I plead for peace and healing,” one follower said. ”AMEN. TOBY, GET WELL.”
Another follower shared their own cancer story, stating, “Sending prayers for you and others who are fighting cancer.” This month marks three years since I lost my fiancé.” “May God bless you all.”
In June, Keith announced that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer and estimated that he had only a few months to live.
“I’ve spent the previous six months through chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, heal, and rest,” he remarked at the time on Instagram. “I’m excited to spend this time with my family. But I’ll see the fans sooner rather than later. I can hardly wait.”
While we are worried that Keith’s cancer treatment will keep him from being able to travel, we are heartened by the support his fans have shown him in his time of need. In Keith’s ongoing battle against cancer, we ask that you join us in praying for him.
