Who is Susan Boyle?
Susan Boyle is a Scottish singer born on 1st of April, 1961. She used to sing her whole life, but she was discovered in 2009 when she stepped on stage on Britain’s Got Talent. Her stunning performance was with the song “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Miserables. The same year she released her first album which became the bestselling debut album of all time in the UK.
She made about £5 million then, but unlike many people, she didn’t let the money consume her desire for more. But the reason why she had to lose weight was somewhat urgent…
Why Did Susan Boyle Lose Weight?
Susan had been struggling with her weight since childhood. She was bullied for being overweight and the way she looked. But the wake-up call was after she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2012 that she decided to change herself for the better.
With diabetes, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t use it as well as it should. Diabetes is a chronic (long-lasting) health condition that affects how your body turns food into energy. Your body breaks down most of the food you eat into sugar (glucose) and releases it into your bloodstream.
About 422 million people around the world have diabetes, the majority living in low-and middle-income countries, and 1.5 million deaths are directly attributed to diabetes each year. Both the number of cases and the prevalence of diabetes have been steadily increasing over the past few decades.
After Susan discovered the devastating news about her health, it was time to change something immediately or suffer the consequences that sadly, may result in death.
What Was Her Secret Formula To Shed All The Extra Weight?
Susan Boyle followed a 3 steps process:
- Remove Sugar
- Workout
- Take Garcinia Cambogia Supplements
We mostly know what we should do to lose weight, but how did she manage to persist through the cravings? Here’s what she did.
1. Remove Sugar
As soon as Susan Boyle was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, her doctors asked her to eliminate sugar from her diet. When you are diabetic, either your body produces less insulin, or your cells become resistant to it. If type 2 diabetics keep eating too much sugar it can lead to: permanent damage to the nerves in your hands and feet (peripheral neuropathy) permanent damage to your eyes and problems with your sight (diabetic retinopathy) life-threatening conditions such as diabetic ketoacidosis.
She had to stop in an instant.
She had to avoid these things:
- Processed foods
- Ice-creams, candies, cakes, pastries
- Alcohol
- Sugary beverages, milkshakes, energy drinks, sodas
- Breakfast cereals (most contain WAY too much sugar)
- Store-bought salad dressings, ketchup and sauces
- Refined or artificial sweeteners
Here’s what she was allowed to eat:
Sugars To Eat
- Veggies: Vegetables have good carbs that help in better digestion and help flush toxins from your colon.
- Fruits And Fruit Juices: They contain natural sugars with vitamins, dietary fiber, and minerals, which are good for your health, digestion, and skin.
- Cane Sugar Or Dark Brown Sugar: Cane sugar and/or dark brown sugar is less processed and healthier than refined sugar and artificial sugar. Of course, everything in moderation!
Also, she was allowed to consume nuts and seeds that contain good amount of protein and healthy fats. Cutting sugar only didn’t do the trick, she had to do more….
2. Workout
When losing weight, more physical activity increases the number of calories your body uses for energy or “burns off.” The burning of calories through physical activity, combined with reducing the number of calories you eat, creates a “calorie deficit” that results in weight loss.
Her first exercise was walking 2 miles a day. Walking is a low-impact exercise that’s easy on the joints. It can also lower the effect of diabetes on the body since it helps reduce blood sugar levels. Susan Boyle was about 50 at that time, and it was important to keep her knees and joints safe. Walking was the only way she could start burning the fat.
3. Take Garcinia Cambogia Supplement
Garcinia cambogia, a tropical fruit also known as the Malabar tamarind, is a popular weight-loss supplement. People say it blocks your body’s ability to make fat and it puts the brakes on your appetite. Loss of excess weight could help could help keep blood sugar and cholesterol levels in check, too. You’ll find it in bottles on the shelf at the store as well as mixed with other ingredients in diet products.
Recently, Boyle was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome that developed due to a lack of oxygen supply to her brain when she was a baby. Due to her condition, she stopped touring in 2015. However, that did not stop her from singing or taking care of her health.
We can all start taking care of our health today, and weight loss will happen on its own. Just weed out your bad lifestyle habits, stick to a routine, and you will soon start to turn heads!
