Earlier this month, Richard Gere’s father, Homer, passed away at the age of 100, leaving him to grieve the loss of a parent.
Reports indicate that Homer Gere, a stalwart of the North Syracuse neighborhood who devoted many years to helping others, passed away on March 1 in the lower New York state region.
Many sources indicate that Homer took a keen interest in his son’s development and encouraged him to aim high, setting the stage for Richard’s meteoric rise to the top of the entertainment industry.
Alejandra, Richard’s wife, announced Homer’s death on March 4 by posting a touching tribute to her husband on Instagram.
Her initial message read, “Homer George Gere, a community organizer in North Syracuse, has died in North Salem, New York. On March 1, 2023, at the age of 100, he passed away. Gere was a well-respected insurance agent until he retired at the age of 65. He also volunteered extensively with North Area Meals on Wheels and received an award for his efforts. He was a big supporter of the charity, and he and his son Richard Gere appeared in ads all throughout the country for it.
Richard has not made any public statements on his father’s passing, but his silence suggests he is inconsolable. The Beautiful Woman actor has credited his father as a source of strength and inspiration in interviews.
True, not too long ago, Richard hosted a dinner party to honor Homer’s centennial birthday.
There was a birthday celebration in May of 2022, and it was hosted at Pastabilities, a historic eatery in New York’s Armory Square.
After the party was over, the restaurant shared a photo on Instagram with the statement, “Richard Gere came in to Pasta’s tonight to celebrate his fathers 100th birthday.”
Richard, an Oscar-winning actor, apparently had such a profound impact on Richard’s life that he named his son Homer.
Richard Gere, who is 73 years old, and his family were on holiday in Mexico when he had a health scare. His wife, Alejandra Silva, and their two children were also with him.
There were rumors that the actor contracted the virus during his trip. Turns out, the actor from The American Gigolo had a cough to begin with, and it just got worse when he was in Mexico. As a result of his persistent coughing, he sought medical attention and was eventually diagnosed with pneumonia. The actor stayed the night to be watched and was released the next day.
