Pat Sajak Bids Farewell To ‘Wheel Of Fortune’ Fans With An Emotional Message

Pat Sajak is saying goodbye to Wheel of Fortune after more than 40 years and 8,000 episodes.

When he spins the wheel for the last time in his final episode, the seasoned host will formally retire.

Sajak’s final episode will air in just a few hours, but before then, the show’s producers have shared a preview of what fans can expect when the host bids them farewell.

“I have a few thanks and acknowledgements before I go,” according to Variety, Sajak states, “and I want to start with all of you watching out there.”

“It’s been an incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes, night after night, decade after decade. And I always felt that the privilege came with the responsibility to keep this daily half-hour a safe place for family fun. No social issues. No politics. Nothing embarrassing, I hope. Just a game. But gradually it became more than that — a place where kids learned their letters, where people from other countries honed their English skills, where families came together along with friends and neighbors and entire generations. What an honor to have played even a small part in all of that. Thank you for allowing me into your lives.”

In June 2023, Sajak made his initial announcement that he was quitting Wheel of Fortune, saying, “The time has come.”

The former weatherman began presenting Wheel of Fortune in 1981 on the daytime show. In 1983, he moved to the syndicated version of the show, when he started co-hosting alongside Vanna White.

In the show on Thursday night, White honored Sajak by sending her “brother” a heartfelt letter.

“As this chapter of our lives is coming to an end, I know you’ll still be close by. You’re like a brother to me, and I consider you a true lifelong friend who I will always adore. I love you, Pat,” she said.

I’ve known Pat Sajak and Wheel of Fortune for as long as I can remember. He deserves to enjoy his retirement, even though it is really distressing to hear that this will be his last presentation!
