Ozzy Osbourne Admits He Neglected Family While Battling Addiction In Honest Old Interview
The relationship between the English singer and his son, Jack Osbourne, was restored after it had almost been destroyed during his fight with addiction.
After struggling with drug addiction and alcoholism in the 1970s, Ozzy Osbourne eventually found recovery. In a rediscovered interview, he acknowledged that he did not provide the support his family needed during those trying years.
Ozzy’s battle with addiction was so severe that he kept relapsing even after multiple stays in treatment. Sharon thought she could get better for a while. She hoped that each rehab stay would be the turning point he needed in the early attempts.

“And then after about the fifth time I’m like, ‘He’s never going to get it.’ And you just accept it. That’s the way it’s going to be,” she admitted.
Ozzy later came to understand the toll his addiction had taken on his family, calling it “a very selfish disease.” “My kids needed me. … I had a row with Jack. I had to talk business. And I said, ‘What have you ever [expletive] wanted? I’ll give you whatever you want.’ He says, ‘What about a father?'” Ozzy recalled.
Jack’s response left him stunned and overwhelmed with guilt as he realized just how deeply his absence had affected his children. “I’d give whatever materialistic things they ever wanted. But the most important person wasn’t there,” he acknowledged.
Ozzy did, in time, manage to achieve sobriety. When Sharon was asked what it was like to have a sober Ozzy, she said, “Very calm in the house. It’s very pleasant in the house. It’s great for our whole family. It really is.”
Jack has now spoken well of his father as well. On July 4, he was able to deliver Ozzy’s new documentary “The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne” to the audience in Birmingham, where he was accompanied by the director.
While at the Millennium Point Centre in Birmingham, Jack reflected on his father, “What are my three words to describe my dad? I would say funny, unique and powerful. He is an incredible man. He really is. His contribution to music is bigger than his faults. This whole weekend has been emotional.”
A day prior to the “Back to the Beginning” event, which would ultimately be the singer’s last live performance, “The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne” was screened.
Jack also discussed the impending Ozzy biography, which will now have much more significance for fans. With a finished story, a director in place, and Sony Studios producing, the movie has accelerated significantly.
“We are really excited about it so maybe we will do the premiere here in Birmingham. It is about to go through a script rewrite. It’s going to be raw. We are not pulling any punches, we are really laying it all out. The director we have is absolutely phenomenal,” shared Jack.
The filmmaker, who is a huge admirer of Ozzy, even shows off some of his tattoos, which Jack interprets as evidence that the project is in capable hands. Filming might start in the spring if all goes as planned, with a summer 2027 release date anticipated.
Unfortunately, Ozzy will never be able to view the movie that chronicles his remarkable life. On July 22, 2025, the renowned rock star tragically died at the age of 76.
The family announced via a short statement on X, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”
Ozzy had become closer to his children and grandchildren prior to his death. With his ex-wife Lisa Stelly, his son Jack has three daughters: Pearl, Andy, and Minnie. He also has a fourth daughter, Maple, with his wife Aree Gearhart.
Although Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne had been willing to watch his daughters, Jack had revealed that there were restrictions. Since it had been simpler for them, they would rather take care of the girls at their house than Jack’s.
Although Sharon was equally comfortable changing diapers, Ozzy had a strict no-diaper policy, according to the conventional wisdom that said fathers shouldn’t perform such duties.
Jack also disclosed that Ozzy had a firm rule about his grandchildren getting into bed to watch television. Ozzy would have completely removed himself from the scenario if the females had tried to cuddle up with Sharon because he thought it was improper. Jack accepted that limit as a natural aspect of his father’s character and respected it.
Jack loved his father, and his last message before Ozzy’s passing was publicized was filled with sentimentality. He spoke on their formative years in the house that would later serve as both his family’s residence and the backdrop for the renowned MTV reality series “The Osbournes.”
Jack talked about his peculiar introduction to the Beverly Hills house during his appearance on the “Trying Not To Die” podcast.
He thought the house belonged to a man who went by the name “President Bongo” and claimed to be the President of the Congo at the time. There has never been a Congolese leader like that, but the man Jack mentioned and who was in the pictures he posted was Ali Bongo, the president of Gabon.
Nevertheless, the narrative stayed with Jack, particularly since pictures of exotic creatures, such as pet lions, were all around the house. He reportedly recalled finding campaign T-shirts in the man’s wardrobe, one of which he claimed to have taken as a strange memento and which purportedly read, “President Bongo, for the Congo.”
Ozzy Osbourne’s last Instagram update garnered notice in addition to Jack’s post. Fans now view the post, which was shared just one day before his death, as a moving farewell.
The picture, which was shared without a description, showed a backstage corridor that led to a door. There was a sign over it that read, “Back to the Beginning — The Final Show.”
The names of the original Black Sabbath members—Bill Ward, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler—were written on the sign. The corridor seemed to indicate a course, perhaps one that was traversed during a last tour event or practice, as it was lined with silhouettes of trophies and a pink arrow that was visible on the floor.
Fans believe that Osbourne used the post as a subliminal farewell to the public and his decades-long career because of the sign’s placement and phrasing.
The post’s comment section is flooded with tributes following the passing of the renowned artist. Numerous admirers have expressed their feelings.
One person wrote, ““He said one final goodbye, rested and passed with his loved ones by his side. I can’t think of a better way to spend your final days. Rest in Peace, Ozzy .” Another added, “He got to say goodbye…”
“He did really retire.. rest in peace Ozzy,” read one comment. “last concert was what he needed to let go [sic],” noted another netizen.
Ozzy’s last post, which has no description and no additional context, is now a silent tribute to the end of a musical legacy that started with Black Sabbath and has lasted for more than 50 years. Despite being brief, the picture and its timing have struck a chord with many people and have come to represent his farewell bow.
