Little Boy Orphaned After Both Parents Die In Separate Tragedies Just Hours Apart

Gabriel, a 4-year-old boy from Baton Rouge, lost his parents after an engaged couple tragically perished in separate car wrecks just hours apart.

Alexus Lee, 25, and her fiancé, John “JR” Collins, 35, were killed in bizarre crashes early Friday morning less than two hours apart. They had recently purchased a home before getting married in February 2026.

Shortly after two in the morning, Lee lost control of her Toyota Highlander while travelling north on LA 67 close to Lemon Road in Zachary, according to Louisiana State Police.

Her SUV overturned after colliding with a culvert. The instructor and mother-of-one at Clinton’s STEAM Academy passed away on the spot.

Collins, her fiancé, went to the crash site when authorities informed him of the situation. He lost control of his Chevrolet Camaro en route.

Around 3:45 in the morning, Collins was travelling south on LA 67 close to Idlewild Road when he veered off the left side of the road, hit a tree, and failed to complete a curve, according to the police. At the scene, he also passed away.

Police claim that neither Lee nor Collins were wearing seatbelts. The two collisions are still being investigated.

“I love them and I’m gonna miss both of them, and I’m gonna find the strength to go ahead,” Collins’ father, Arthur Collins, told WAFB.

The families of Lee and Collins held back their tears as they thought back on the couple’s tragically short love tale. Collins’ parents talked about the couple’s intense romance while holding hands.

“He loved Alexus as well as everybody else who knew her. To know her was to love her,” Collins’ mother, Sandra Collins, said.

“Losing Lexus just different. It was a different feeling, and it’s like I know a part of me gone,” said Alexus’s sister, Dominque Lee, through tears.

The 4-year-old son of the couple is now an orphan.

“He understands what happened, and he’s just having a little problem comprehending that we can’t talk to them. We can’t see them, but he understands that they are asleep and are with God,” Sandra said.

Lee was a teacher at East Feliciana STEAM Academy and a recent graduate of Southern University. According to WAFB, Collins was a truck driver who had a passion for fast automobiles.

Their family claim that Gabriel is the reason their love endures despite the devastating loss.

“Even though they left a child behind, we have a great support system. The two families will blend, and we will do whatever it takes to give him a good life,” Collins’ father said.

On Wednesday, the pair will celebrate their lives together.
