Levi’s CEO Said That Real ‘Denim Heads’ Know Not To Wash Their Jeans In The Machine

Charles Bergh claimed that true “denim heads” are aware that washing jeans in a machine is not a good idea.

Do you think you could live without ever using a washing machine to clean your jeans?

That’s exactly what the CEO of Levi’s has advised.

The CEO of the well-known denim company, Charles ‘Chip’ Bergh, asserts that washing jeans in a washing machine is a grave mistake.

Speaking up on the subject, Bergh once told CNBC that he has a problem with washing machines rather than washing your pants altogether.

The CEO of Levi’s clarified, “I never said don’t wash your jeans,” adding that “true denim heads” already knew this.

“True denim heads, people that really love their denim, will tell you to never put your denim into a washing machine. So that’s what I do.

“If I drop some curry on my jeans, I’m gonna clean it. But I’ll spot clean it. And if they get really gross you know, if I’ve been out sweating or something and they get really gross, I’ll wash them in the shower.”

Bergh has previously discussed this specific subject.

He really made headlines a decade ago when he shockingly revealed that his favourite pair of pants had never seen the inside of a washing machine in the ten years he had been wearing them.

Bergh is not alone, though, in his opposition to throwing your pants in the washing machine.

Celebrity stylist Ranya Batal (@ranyabatal), who echoed Bergh’s advise, released a video on her platform a few years ago alerting viewers not to wash their favourite pants in the washing machine.

“Do Not Wash Your Jeans!” was her caption for the photo. “I know it’s gross, but trust me.”

Batal gave the following advice in her video: “Do not wash your jeans – don’t do it!”

“It affects the fit and the colour, they will fade and they will never fit the same.”

She went on to say that there is a fix and that she thinks it will make the jeans appear brand new.

“Throw them in a zip-lock bag into the freezer for two days,” she advised, before adding: “Good as new.”

However, what if they are stained? What about the microorganisms?

This isn’t an issue, says Kelly Love, co-founder and CEO of non-toxic cleaning company Branch Basics.

She believes that simply placing them outside in the sun to breathe will be quite beneficial.

That’s it, then. Stop right now if you were about to throw your favourite jeans in the laundry!
