Kate Middleton Describes A “Harrowing” Incident Shortly Before She Left The Hospital
Hours before Kate Middleton was to leave the hospital following the birth of Prince George, she experienced a “terrifying” moment.
The Princess of Wales faced a sizable throng at the birth of her three children, particularly Prince George, in contrast to her quiet departure last week after undergoing stomach surgery.
When George was born in July 2013, royal fans all over the world were eagerly anticipating him. His birth was widely publicized, and he was introduced to the public in front of a sizable throng in Paddington, Central London, just outside the Lindo Wing.
On the hospital steps, William and Kate proudly displayed their baby, emulating moments captured by the late Princess Diana when she gave birth to William. For the couple, especially Kate, who had just given baby hours before, it was clearly a scary time. She acknowledged in an earlier interview that the photocall was “a little frightening.”
Former I’m A celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here winner Giovanna Fletcher asked Kate during their appearance on the podcast Happy Mum, Happy Baby, “What was it like knowing that so many people are outside after you’ve given birth and you’re in your little cocoon with your new family, What’s it like?”
Kate openly admitted: “Yeah, slightly terrifying, slightly terrifying, I’m not going to lie. I like to decompartmentalise – what’s the word compartmentalise, yes, the whole thing.”
She also explained her decision to pose with her child on the hospital stairs, much like Diana did.
She stated: “Everyone had been so supportive and both William and I were really conscious that this was something that everyone was excited about and you know we’re hugely grateful for the support that the public had shown us, and actually for us to be able to share that joy and appreciation with the public, I felt was really important.”
“But equally, it was coupled with a newborn baby, inexperienced parents, and the uncertainty of what that held, so there were all sorts of mixed emotions.” In response to a question concerning the interval between giving birth and the Lindo Wing step photo shoot, Kate said, “Oh my gosh, I can’t remember. Everything goes in a bit of a blur.”
“I think, yeah, I did stay in hospital overnight, I remember it was one of the hottest days and nights with huge thunderstorms so I didn’t get a huge amount of sleep, but George did which was really great. I was keen to get home because, for me, being in hospital, I had all the memories of being in hospital because of being sick so it wasn’t a place I wanted to hang around in. So, I was really desperate to get home and get back to normality.”
Kate underwent a scheduled procedure at the London Clinic last month, and it is anticipated that she will resume her royal duties following Easter. Prince William is taking time off from his own royal duties to care for her and the children in a kind show of support. Later on, a royal specialist called the operation “very worrying”.
However, sharing an update earlier this week, a Kensington Palace spokesperson said, “The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress. The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided. The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world.”
