Jane Fonda Criticizes Jennifer Lopez’s Relationship With Ben Affleck

If your friends don’t watch out for you and give you the odd relationship advice, then what good are they?

Jennifer Lopez’s reunion with Ben Affleck has delighted everyone, but Jane Fonda, a friend of the actress, has some reservations. Furthermore, the 86-year-old actress has no qualms about expressing her feelings to the public on Lopez’s reconciliation with Affleck.

When the unusual duo played opposite one another in the 2005 movie Monster-in-Law, they instantly became friends. They’ve stayed close ever since. So close, in fact, that Lopez asked Fonda to star in This Is Me Now: A Love Story, her latest documentary.

Fonda expresses two worries to the husband and wife team in the movie.

“I want you to know that I don’t entirely know why, but I feel invested in you and Ben, and I really want this to work,” Fonda explained to Lopez, according to Variety. “However, this is my concern. Like, it feels too much like you’re trying to prove something instead of just living it. You know, every other photograph is the two of you kissing and the two of you hugging.”

“That’s just us living our life,” Lopez replied, laughing off the comment.

After seeing pictures of Affleck at the 2023 Grammy Awards, Fonda also voiced her worries, stating that she was “really scared.”

“I got real scared, you know, with all that s-it about the Grammys and he looks unhappy and I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, what’s happening.’”

“Nothing” was wrong with Fonda’s relationship, Lopez reassured her; Affleck was just “like, ‘I’ve become the symbol of the beleaguered man.’”

Fonda stated that she thought “everyone in the entire world is pulling for this relationship and this love,” despite her criticisms, and that the couple’s public presentation of their union is “so important.”

“It should be handled in a way that you aren’t overly flaunting it, so much so that it creates any form of criticism or resentment.”
