Jack Daniel’s Responds After A Video Went Viral Showing Canadian Stores Taking Us Booze Off Their Shelves

After a video of the beloved whiskey brand being taken out of Canadian stores went viral, Jack Daniel’s producers responded.

In an online video, store owners in Canada are seen removing booze from shelves, presumably in reaction to Donald Trump’s tariffs and Justin Trudeau’s (Canada’s outgoing prime minister) subsequent response.

The manufacturer of Jack Daniel’s, Brown-Forman, has criticized the Liquor Control Board of Ontario’s (LCBO) decision to ban alcoholic products made in the United States from its shelves earlier this week.

Lawson Whiting, the company’s CEO said in a financial earnings call: “I mean, that’s worse than a tariff, because it’s literally taking your sales away, completely removing our products from the shelves.”

Although Whiting stated that Canada barely represented for 1% of their total sales, the boss referred to the counter-tariffs imposed by Canada as “disproportionate,” according to the Guardian.

Since sales in Mexico make up 7% of all sales in 2024, the removal of Jack Daniel’s from Mexican store shelves would pose a greater challenge for the alcoholic beverage manufacturer.

Whiting is forecasting ‘continuing unpredictability and headwinds in the external environment’ for the future.

Trump approved an order last month that imposed additional 25% tariffs on items imported from Canada and Mexico in an effort to “hold China, Mexico, and Canada accountable for their promises to halt the flood of poisonous drugs into the US.”

Trump claimed that the only “solution” for Canada to escape the tariff was to “become [the US’] Cherished 51st State,” something that Canada would obviously not accept.

According to the directive, “enough fentanyl was seized at the northern border last fiscal year to kill 9.8 million Americans,” and “fentanyl production is growing in Canada.”

Conversely, Trudeau has maintained that Canada has “worked relentlessly to address this scourge that affects Canadians and Americans alike” and that “less than one per cent of the fentanyl intercepted at the US border comes from Canada.”

However, that failed to materialize, and the crisis escalated.

In response to Trump’s “unjustified decision,” Canada issued its own counter-tariffs and stated that it was in “active and ongoing discussions with provinces and territories to pursue several non-tariff measures.”

“While we urge the US administration to reconsider their tariffs, Canada remains firm in standing up for our economy, our jobs, our workers, and for a fair deal,” Trudeau stated.
