I Could Watch This College Team Make History With Performance Of ‘Smooth Criminal’ Over And Over Again

Louisiana State University’s Tiger Girl’s dance team won the “Super Bowl of Dance” with a performance of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” that got a lot of attention on the internet.

The Louisiana State University (LSU) Dance Team made history when they won their fourth title at the Universal Dance Association Hip Hop Competition. Their performance at the “Super Bowl of Dance” was truly amazing.

The 2024 event took place in Orlando, Florida, and the Tiger Girls put on a stunning tribute to Michael Jackson. They mixed classic moves with new, modern takes on the late singer’s famous routines.

The Tiger Girls looked like they were straight out of a Michael Jackson music video. They were wearing white satin suits, ties that sparkled, Nike sneakers, and classic fedoras. Their stylish outfits went great with their tribute to the King of Pop, and they did a great job singing the famous song “Smooth Criminal.”

This popular song was released in 1988 as part of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” album. It’s known for both its catchy beats and the difficult dance moves in the video.

In an interview with Southern Living, head coach Kandace Hale said she didn’t think twice when the team’s choreographers suggested the Jackson song. “It’s a classic,” she said, adding that the “team is obsessed with Michael Jackson.”

Electric

The LSU dancers, who are known for having perfect beat and groove, filled every moment with electric energy. The best part of their routine was when they all lined up in a sharp vertical and did Jackson’s signature hip thrusts at the same time.

The two choreographers wrote on Instagram about the team’s winning performance, “To be faced with the challenge to take on an icon such as Michael and bring his essence and star power into the present day is hands down the most difficult path we could have picked.”

The post continues, “But with the village that is this team, the choreographers, consultants and coaches—we know we have no choice but to aim for the highest form of excellence.”

Fans say the team “nailed it” with “untouchable precision” that was “un-freaking-believable.”

“I can’t stop watching this routine. I am completely addicted!!” writes one netizen in the comments section of the team’s Instagram.

A second shares, “Whoever choreographed this routine deserves a Grammy,” while a third offers, “I got chills watching this. Absolutely amazing!”

Praising her team for the win, Hale says “our theme this year was being ‘undeniably us.’ In today’s world, it’s like everybody wants to be everybody else. We wanted to try to do what we do best.”
