VIDEO: Heroic 13-Year-Old Saves School Bus After Driver Passes Out

Amazing video captured aboard a Michigan bus captures the moment a 13-year-old child rescued the driver after he unexpectedly lost consciousness.

When Dillon Reeves, a resident of Warren, Michigan, found himself in charge of Bus No. 46 one day last April when he was heading home from school, he was still at least three years away from receiving his driver’s license.

When Dillon looked out the window, he saw that the bus was “swerving.” He turned to face the bus driver and saw that her head had fallen forward, her eyes closed.

“She didn’t even have her hands on the steering wheel or the gas pedal,” Dillon later told People. “It just didn’t seem right.”

When Dillon saw that the bus was going to cross a curb, he hurried over to the wheel and turned it, avoiding an accident at the crossing with another vehicle.

After that, the 13-year-old applied the brakes gently, bringing the bus and all of its occupants—60 middle schoolers—to a halt. After then, he told his friends to dial 911.

Fortunately, no one was harmed in the incident, but the video showed students shouting, clearly shaken by what had just transpired.

Following the incident, the bus driver was brought to the hospital; he later returned home and was “doing well.”

People claims that following the incident, the motorist contacted Dillon’s stepmother, Ireta Reeves, to thank the teenager.

“I’m so thankful Dillon was on the bus that day,” she began.

“His swift actions saved lives and property and he deserves all the attention for his bravery. He was asking a few months back about being a bus driver, how old did you have to be and if it was hard,” the message continued.

“He thought he might want to be a bus driver one day. It’s a great job. I love it. But I hope Dillon can see his potential to be so much more.”

Steve Reeves, Dillon’s father, said he was “very, very proud” of his son’s ability to step in.

“This is overwhelming for all of us […] He is very attentive to his surroundings.”

Local authorities placed a sign that read “Hero” in the family’s front garden as a token of gratitude for Dillon’s bravery.

However, the young boy remained modest in the wake of the incident, with Ireta saying, “He’s like, ‘All I did was stop the bus’.”
