Former Fox News Anchor Accused Of Killing Her 80-Year-Old Mother In Shocking Stabbing Incident
In addition to stories that revealed the case’s specifics, a local neighborhood resident described her interaction with the accused.
The grisly Halloween murder of a once-respected Fox News presenter who is now a corporate consultant has shocked her tranquil Kansas community of Wichita.
After her mother was discovered on October 31, 2025, with fatal stab wounds, the 47-year-old woman was arrested by the Sedgwick County Police Department (SCPD).

What Happened on Halloween Morning in Suburban Wichita?
At around 7:52 a.m. on Friday, officers were called to a “reported cutting” at a house on Crowley Street close to Victoria Street, according to a SCPD media release. When they arrived, they saw a woman—later identified as Angelynn “Angie” Elizabeth Mock—standing outside the house.
Within the house? A terrifying scene. Anita Avers, 80, her mother, was discovered by officers lying unconscious in bed with multiple stab wounds. After being taken to a local hospital, Avers was declared dead at 8:26 a.m.
Although officials have not yet disclosed more details about the weapon or the circumstances leading up to the attack, the pattern of her injuries suggested a brutal and prolonged assault. Mock was taken into custody right away and then placed into the Sedgwick County Jail.
She is presently being held on a $1 million professional surety bail and is charged with first-degree murder under Kansas code 21-5402.a.1.b. Mock, who stands five feet eight inches tall, is still being held at the county’s main correctional facility as of this writing.
Detectives are looking for answers as the investigation progresses, wondering what might have caused the mother and daughter to act in such a horrific manner.
What Is a Possible Early Motive Behind Angelynn Mock’s Violent Action?
Although a motivation has not been formally disclosed by the SCPD, preliminary reports have suggested that self-defense may be the reason.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the name of the lady who called 911, but according to dispatch audio acquired by local broadcaster KAKE, she claimed to have “stabbed her mother to save herself.” According to some reports, Mock left the house after the stabbing and went to a neighbor to call for assistance.
What Did a Neighbor Say about Angelynn Mock?
Alyssa Castro, a neighbor, remembered the terrifying moment she met Mock soon after the reported attack. Castro told KAKE that she was inside a car close by when a woman who was obviously upset and covered in blood approached her.
“There was a woman who approached our vehicle with like blood, like her hands were filled, her body was filled with blood, asking to call 911,” Castro recalled. She claimed that after stealing her phone, the woman, who was later identified as Mock, hurried back inside the house.
Mock is thought to have contacted authorities herself via the device. Mock apparently reiterated the assertion that she acted in self-defense during the interaction with the police. Notwithstanding these claims, law enforcement authorities have not acknowledged whether Mock’s comments were captured on tape or if they are crucial to the current inquiry.
Uncertainty surrounds the events leading up to the stabbing, particularly what might have precipitated a violent altercation between mother and daughter. Furthermore, detectives have not disclosed whether Mock and her deceased mother had a history of marital disputes.
What Was Angelynn Mock’s Career Like Before She Became a Murder Suspect?
Mock’s professional character, which has been developed over more than ten years, has been in sharp and unnerving contrast to the catastrophe that is currently unfolding. Previously a well-known figure on American morning television, Mock started his broadcasting career in the early 2000s and held significant positions in several states and networks.
From 2007 until 2011, she worked as a morning anchor for KOKH FOX 25 in Oklahoma City, where she co-anchored and assisted in the debut of a two-hour morning newscast that was later extended to five hours.
According to reports, she received praise for her efforts, winning a Heartland Emmy for a promotional piece. She began working as a morning anchor and fill-in nightly reporter for KTVI FOX 2 in St. Louis in 2011. From 2011 until early 2015, she conducted interviews and provided news coverage for one of the area’s highest-rated shows.
Prior to these prominent positions, Mock was a reporter, co-host, and sports anchor for a number of local stations, such as KAAL-TV in Minnesota, KLKN-TV in Nebraska, and KECI-TV in Montana.
She described her career on LinkedIn as one that is established in high-pressure circumstances with an emphasis on professionalism and relationship-building. Her experience includes live reporting, newsroom coordination, and community-facing media work.
Mock left the television industry to work in the private sector, applying her experience in communications to software sales. She now states that she has been employed since 2019 at Imaging Office Systems as a data management consultant.
Her profile highlights her track record in customer relations and sales strategy, as well as her ability to bridge complicated business solutions with clear communication.
As an emcee for the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” campaign and a participant in Alzheimer’s awareness campaigns, Mock has been an active volunteer outside of her career.
As detectives continue to put together what led to the deadly encounter on Halloween morning, the once-celebrated writer and consultant is now at the focus of a criminal inquiry and is being scrutinized by the public.
As they grieve such a profound loss, we would like to offer our deepest sympathies to Avers’ family, friends, community, loved ones, and everyone who knew and loved her. In the midst of their sorrow, we wish for their recovery. Rest in peace, Avers.
