Controversial Smart Ring Promises To Expose Cheaters — And Possibly End Relationships

Imagine having the ability to detect infidelity in a partner.

Although they are not new, smart rings have been highly embraced by the tech industry and come in a variety of measuring and tracking options.

The Oura Ring, for instance, is made to monitor stress and sleep patterns, while more traditional wearables, such as Amazon’s now-discontinued Halo, may even use artificial intelligence to analyse your voice. In the meanwhile, devices like the Bond Touch Bracelet allow long-distance couples to express their thoughts for one another by sending tiny vibrations.

These days, a relationship make-or-break gadget integrates all of these functions into a single ring, enabling couples to monitor one another around-the-clock.

The RAW Ring, a “dystopian loyalty tracker,” aids couples in monitoring their connection.

Instead of eavesdropping, RAW Ring CEO Marina Anderson says the ring wants to establish trust. However, the audacious concept, which is a continuation of the uncensored RAW dating app, is still in its early stages of development.

“The idea behind the ring was to give couples more ways to explore each other’s feelings on a deeper level and build more trust,” Anderson said.

“Almost 50 percent of marriages now end in divorce. We would like to build the ring as a symbol of trust again.”

What is the RAW Ring going to do?

Anderson has a thorough strategy for how the smart ring will function, even if it isn’t yet available for purchase.

The RAW Ring’s design incorporates a skin temperature sensor and heart rate monitor, a noise-cancelling MEMs microphone to evaluate changes in voice tone, and an accelerometer and gyroscope to detect movement.

The ring will also have ‘dual-level AI’, with one processor to decipher biometric information and real-time signals and another cloud-based system to search for ‘deeper trends’ over time.

According to Anderson, by studying various physiological signs, the ring’s AI would be able to distinguish between arousal, nervous energy, and a workout. According to Anderson, the ring is about mutual trust and is customisable for the user, even though it may sound like relationship surveillance.

“We don’t want to market the ring as any loyalty tracker or tracking device because it’s not suitable for people who want to cheat,” Anderson told The Verge. “If you plan to cheat, you’ll never wear the ring because it’ll be easily visible when you do so.”

Additionally, users may choose which data or emotional markers are shared with their spouse, so if one person doesn’t want to reveal every small rise in their heart rate, they can choose not to.

“We’d like people to be able to change [their settings] fast in reaction to something. You don’t always know problems within a relationship or your boundaries until something happens. The device needs to be super flexible,” Anderson added. “You can always quickly shut it down as well and completely stop any sharing.”

When will the RAW Ring be available for purchase?

The RAW Ring is now undergoing testing and development, with an official launch anticipated in 2026. A prototype is scheduled for distribution in September of this year.
