Birthday Trip Turns Fatal As Boat Capsizes In 8-Foot Waves, 8 Lost On Lake Tahoe
Eight people, including an executive from a software business, have been named by authorities in the June 21 boating catastrophe in Lake Tahoe.
After many days of multi-agency coordinated activities, the identifications were made public by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDSO) on June 24. A 27-foot Chris-Craft boat carrying the victims overturned during an unexpected summer storm close to D.L. Bliss State Park.
Family members said KTVU that Joshua Antony Pickles, 37, a San Francisco-based DoorDash executive, was the owner of the yacht. He passed away with his parents, Terry Pickles, 73, and Paula Bozinovich, 71, of Redwood City, California.
Other fatalities included Stephen Lindsay, 63, of Springwater, New York; Theresa Giullari, 66, and James Guck, 69, of Honeoye, New York; Timothy O’Leary, 71, of Auburn; and Peter Bayes, 72, of Lincoln.
According to reports, the eight victims were among ten individuals on board the ship. The identity of the two people who survived the disaster have not been made public.
As previously reported by EDSO, the recovery operation was formally concluded on June 23 at 2:40 p.m. when the final missing individual was retrieved from the lake. Large waves and extremely strong wind gusts caused the boat to capsize, according to officials. That afternoon’s footage showed dangerous conditions on the sea.
In addition to thanking the U.S. Coast Guard, California State Parks, and local fire and law enforcement organisations, the Sheriff’s Office offered its condolences to the families of the fatalities.
