After Dog Gets Hit By Car, Harsh Sign Has Entire Neighborhood Talking
Since we spend so much time with them, dogs often receive the same level of affection as a human child.
Whether it was an accident or not, it’s hard to say what any of us would do if someone hurt this close friend.
Imagine a trustworthy and cheerful puppy, full of childlike wonder and utter faith in the world around it.
A speeding automobile rips through their lives in an instant, destroying everything in its path and taking away their future.
The pain of losing a beloved dog is unparalleled because it strikes at the very core of who you are.
The author of this piece definitely understands the pain of having to bury a pet because of a careless driver, as this is a reality for many people.
A family decided to make a stand when one of the members tragically lost a dog in an accident.
They put the sign up in their front yard to deter speeders. Many people might even take offense to the message.
”We buried our dog last week because you won’t slow down,” the sign read. “If you hit 1 of my kids your family may be burying you.”
This sign in my neighborhood.
A picture of the sign was uploaded to Reddit, where it attracted a flood of comments and analysis.
”I never understand why people speed through neighborhoods…or parking lots. Seriously…what’s the logic in that?” one user remarked.
The article was also shared on social media sites like Facebook. Everyone who saw the warning agreed with the individual who posted it.
”Love the sign. People drive way too fast in neighborhoods. More than 20 is to fast. Kids on bikes. Kids playing in their own yard and a ball goes in the street, it happens. So why is there this problem. Well it’s because people are f**king idiots. Plain and simple,” one Facebook user said.
”Damn straight! One of my dogs got away from me and the woman who ran over him didn’t even slow down. Just ran over him. Same could happen to a child,” another commented.
Others online have also expressed disagreement with the dog’s owner. It has been speculated that the man may have given his dog too much freedom.
”I don’t feel sorry for them one bit. Have the same problem in my neighborhood. Everyone thinks it is free range country for dogs and cats. My dogs do not leave my property without my permission,” one reader wrote.
”Keep your dog on a leash! If you cared about your fur friend you would take better care of them,” said another.
”Speeding is bad, but your dog and kids are your responsibility to keep them out of the street,” yet another added.
This is not the first time a sign like this has appeared in our communities, and it is likely not the last. Kevin Jackman, a resident of Middletown, New Jersey, reached his breaking point seven years ago.
People driving too fast through his neighborhood, where kids live and play, made him increasingly angry.
He was so intent on stopping it that he put up a sign that would be noticed and have an effect. The end result was a sign that made people stop and think about its message.
It was a powerful warning to motorists to take their time and put safety first.

This is a reminder that your failure to slow down last week resulted in the death of my dog. Your loved ones will be the ones to bury you if you ever hit a child.
Kevin Jackman said he got the idea for his sign from a social media post, so perhaps he stumbled across the Reddit thread from back in the day.
What does the sign make you think of? Whose side do you find yourself on, those who support the dog owners or those who want the dog owners to take responsibility?
