Actor Jonathan Joss Killed In Alleged Hate Crime Following Ongoing Harassment

According to authorities, King of the Hill star Jonathan Joss passed away at the age of 59 after being shot dead by a neighbour after a dispute.

The actor’s most famous part was that of John Redcorn on the popular and long-running cartoon series, although he has starred in other TV shows, such as Parks and Recreation, Ray Donovan, and Tulsa King.

San Antonio Police said that on Sunday, June 1, Joss got into a fight with his neighbour, Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, which resulted in Alvarez, 56, shooting Joss.

According to Variety, at approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday, police were called to a gunshot scene and discovered the 59-year-old, who had been wounded multiple times, at the side of the road. At the scene, he was later declared dead.

The San Antonio Police Department announced on Monday (June 2) that Alvarez was arrested soon after the event and has now been charged with murder.

Although the cause of the argument has not yet been disclosed by the police, Joss’s husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, has already shared his version of events on Facebook.

He wrote, “Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.”

“Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. We picked Valentines Day.”

“We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future.”

The pair was allegedly harassed because they were LGBT, according to Kern de Gonzales, who had previously called the event a hate crime.

He alleged, “He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.”

Kern de Gonzales went on to say that the couple had reported the alleged harassment to the police multiple times, but it seems to have persisted, according to The New York Times.

San Antonio Police claimed in a statement posted on Twitter that they had not yet discovered “any evidence” that Joss’s sexual orientation was the cause of the argument.

They said, “SAPD Homicide is currently investigating the murder of Mr. Jonathan Joss. Despite online claims of this being a hate crime, currently the investigation has found no evidence to indicate that the Mr. Joss’s murder was related to his sexual orientation.”

“SAPD investigators handle these allegations very seriously and have thoroughly reviewed all available information. Should any new evidence come to light, the suspect will be charged accordingly.”

His current priorities, according to Kern de Gonzales, are “preserving Jonathan’s legacy and respecting the life we created together.”

He continued, “If your concern is how someone coped with trauma or how loudly they speak when recounting injustice and being ignored by authorities then you never truly cared about my husband.”

“Jonathan saved my life. I will carry that forward. I will protect what he built.”
