A New York Mother Has Been Charged In The Death Of Her 11-Month-Old Baby

The death of an 11-month-old infant who was thrown down a pipe and left to perish in an icy pool of mud and water has led to the charging of a mother in New York.

Halo Branton was reported kidnapped, but her search ended abruptly on March 10 when police discovered the small child and brought her to the hospital, where she died later.

Her mother gave a terrifying, inebriated tirade to Facebook users the same evening Halo vanished. Learn more about this adorable child, whose mother is said to have taken her life, by continuing to read.

An Amber Alert was sent out on March 10, 2024, regarding Halo Branton, a youngster from Schenectady, New York, who went missing the previous evening after 9 p.m.

The small girl was stated to be wearing a long-sleeved light pink top with a butterfly design and white sweatpants with brown and beige flowers. She was toting a Minnie Mouse blanket.

The Amber Alert was canceled just a few minutes after it was sent.

Halo was discovered by Schenectady Police Department officers near the base of a utility pipe on the grounds of the General Electric offices.

Persia Nelson, the mother of the stunning baby with hazel eyes, is said to have “dropped” the child “down an approximate 10-foot deep pipe access area” and left it to die there.

Mother “lost her kid.”

The Mirror reports that on a night when the city, located just north of Albany, had temperatures drop below zero and strong winds tear across it, Halo was dumped “into a hole in the ground” full of mud and water.

Halo was taken to Ellis Hospital and given life-saving surgery. But at 1:24 p.m., the infant was declared dead, and an autopsy determined that the cause of death was hypothermia and exposure.

“I’m standing here before you to announce the death of an 11-month-old child,” Lieutenant Ryan Macherone, who was speaking to the media about the infant’s untimely death, stated, “There’s nothing good about that.” Despite his strong feelings, he managed to conceal them. “I’m saddened to report today that she passed away this afternoon.”

He continued, saying, “It’s probably the worst thing that will ever happen (in his career). Most likely,” in reference to having to make the devastating revelation.

According to News Channel 13, Nelson informed security that she had lost her child and didn’t know how she got to the GE campus.

Following preliminary investigations that included looking through local surveillance footage, the 24-year-old mother was charged with second-degree homicide.

Nelson is being detained in custody after entering a not guilty plea. He is expected to appear in court on Thursday, March 14.

The woman, who was originally from nearby Columbia County, had only been in Schenectady for a few months, according to reports, and had previously resided at an Albany County shelter. Prince, her other child, is four years old, and she does not have custody of him.

Drunken rant

On March 7, Nelson posted a collage of pictures with baby Halo, another young child, and a man who looks to be Dante Gregory, a Schenectady native, based on her earlier shots.

The mother has since sent a number of posts, many of which describe her mental decline.

Nelson sent a troubling message on Facebook at 10:16 p.m. the same night Halo vanished, stating, “I’m drunk asf don’t play with me right now lmfaooo.”

She had published another message a few hours prior that said, “Nah, I’m really crazy, don’t play with it.”

“Crazy enough to kill an innocent baby girl YOUR baby girl. So sad I would have loved her. Those big beautiful eyes she had how could you hurt her?” one netizen, who is utilizing social media as a venue to vent their outrage at the baby’s death, along with many others, wrote.

“Why didn’t you just let her father have her if you were going to ROB her of her precious innocent life? I will never ever understand,” another commenter said.

“You put yourself first before your baby. You failed as a ‘mother’ a title you don’t deserve to have,” added a second

In the meantime, Amar Branton’s brother, who shares a son named Prince with Nelson and is the father of baby Halo, has set up a GoFundMe page.

“I am asking for donations to help this young, loving father with funeral expenses and to help him manage – so he is afforded time needed with his son Prince as they grieve the loss of his precious daughter Halo.” the creator, Easton Gregory, said in an explanation.

With nearly $6,000 raised toward its $15,000 target as of March 11, the campaign went on: “Amar is an amazing and loving father who works really hard so his children can thrive…Rest In Peace Halo, you are now an Angel. We will forever love and keep you in our hearts. Until we meet you again, we love you.”

Since investigations are still underway, authorities are unable to provide any details at this time.
