Her Father Was Paralyzed For 21 Years, But What Happened On Her Wedding Day Will Bring You To Tears
Former IndyCar driver, Sam Schmidt was paralyzed from the neck down in 2000.
He wasn’t even meant to be alive at that point…
Schmidt was a racing driver, doing what he loved most, preparing for a new Indy Racing League season. His ultimate goal that year was to win the Indy 500.
Then, one day, his life blinked before his eyes. It was during a training lap at Walt Disney World Speedway in Orlando, Florida, when the horrible accident happened. In a blink of an eye, he lost control of the car and he smashed in a concrete wall at 180 mph. It was the worst day of his life…
“In 2000 they didn’t give me a week, let alone decades,” Schmidt told ESPN. “At that point it was all about survival and just day by day.“
“I never had a dream of driving again in 2000. At all.”
Not only did Schmidt drive again, he raced competitively again! But his priorities changed completely. Not that he wasn’t a family guy, but the horrible accident gave him a time to think on what’s really important…
Savannah, his daughter, was only 2 years old when it happened and could never reminisce a time when her father could stand and walk on his own. On her wedding day, they shared an extremely heart-melting experience. We were lucky enough to witness and document this incredible moment for the family. It wasn’t easy holding the camera still with tears in their eyes, but they did their best.
This is the best thing I’ve watched in weeks. Prepare a box of tissue!
