‘World’s Oldest Virgin,’ 108, Finally Reveals Why She Chose To Stay Celibate All Her Life
It’s a remarkable accomplishment to live past 100 years, but it’s even more remarkable to do so without ever having sex.
At the age of 108, Clara Meadmore died in 2011. Before his death, the centenarian had lived in the UK, New Zealand, and Canada, so he had quite a life.
She worked as a secretary and housekeeper in her twenties before joining the army in Egypt to do her part for Britain during World War 2.
Clara eventually retired to Cornwall in the 1960s, but she didn’t enter a nursing home until she was 104 years old.
People had a lot of questions for Clara, as you would probably expect, and the primary one was what aspects of her lifestyle she thought contributed to her long life.
Speaking on her 105th birthday in 2008, Clara attributed her longevity to staying celibate throughout her life and getting lots of exercise and the occasional glass of wine.
Why didn’t she have sex, though?
“I grew up in an era where little girls were to be seen and not heard, so I had to stand up for myself and earn a living,” according to Mail Online.
“I’ve had lots of platonic friendships with men but never felt the need to go further,” Clara continued.
It seems that people would ask Clara if she was gay, but she adamantly denied it.
“People have asked me whether I am homosexual and the answer is no. I have just never been interested in sex,” she shared, per The Guardian.
“I imagine there is a lot of hassle involved and I have always been busy doing other things.”
On her 105th birthday, Clara’s best friend Josie also stated that she didn’t behave like she was 105 years old.
Josie mused, “You’re as young as you feel. Clara is by no means 105 in many ways. Maybe never having a man under her feet has kept her young all these years.”

According to reports, Clara realized she had no desire in getting married when she was twelve years old.
In previous interviews she resolved, “Everything seems so fast these days. I don’t know a lot about young people or the way they do things. I’m sure its very different.”
“I made my mind up at the age of 12 never to marry and I’ve not gone back on that.”
“[…] People have their own views on sex, but I was never interested in it. I just never met anyone I wanted to marry, and I’ve always been happy alone.”
