Miraculous Rescue: Missing Toddler From 2021 Reunited With Family In 2024

More than three years after going missing in 2021 at the age of one, a young girl has been discovered safe.

The 4-year-old Blessing Wasso went missing on November 5, 2021, when her mother, Erika Ephraim, also known as Ericka Wasso, went missing with her when they were on a monitored visit to a facility in Brighton Park, Chicago.

Blessing and her mother were reported missing by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), which at the time had legal custody of the toddler.

The case remained unsolved until the Chicago Police Department released a new missing person bulletin this spring, speculating that the two may have escaped to Texas or California.

However, a significant development in the case occurred this month when the two were located at a Chicago residence by US Marshals and Chicago police.

On Monday, the US Marshals Service sent a press release stating that on January 1, 2025, CPD assisted in the recovery of a missing infant.

CWB Chicago was informed by a source that the baby was named Blessing.

Both mother and daughter were’safely located’ as of June 6, according to Chicago police.

Investigators made the breakthrough when they noticed a young girl looking remarkably similar to an age-progressed photo of Blessing gazing out of a second-floor window.

Officers forced their way inside the house during a tactical operation on June 3.

A news release from the U.S. Marshals stated that Blessing was discovered inside and promptly returned to protective custody.

After more than three years in hiding, the young girl—who is still a state ward—was brought back to DCFS.

When Ephraim attempted to escape, officers took her into custody.

Cook County Jail is currently where Ephraim is being detained.

She was detained on a number of counts, including robbery, stolen property, and retail theft in Illinois and California, as well as one for full extradition from the California Department of Corrections.
