Shocking Video Shows ICE Agent Smash Car Window To Arrest Man With No Criminal Record

ICE officers began pursuing Marilu and Juan Mendez’s car on Monday, April 14.

The couple was surrounded by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) vehicles while they were driving through New Bedford, Massachusetts.

The ICE agents allegedly continued to refer to Juan as Antonio when they approached the couple, leading them to believe that there had been a mistaken identity.

They then called their attorney, Ondine Galvez Sniffin, who advised them to remain in their vehicle and not provide the agents with any information.

Despite this, two ICE officers were observed busting through the car glass in an attempt to get Juan.

The ICE agents allegedly ‘dragged’ Juan and Marilu out of the car after they finally got inside.

Their attorney claims that Juan is undocumented while Marilu is in the US as an asylum seeker. But he is currently working to change this.

Juan has no criminal history, the couple’s lawyer added.

Speaking to Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra about the scary ordeal, Marilu said, as per NBC, “They looked for a hammer and they broke the car window and dragged us out of the car.”

“Three ICE agents held my husband. They took us out unjustly… I tried to talk to them and ask them if they had an order to detain him. They didn’t respond or show me anything.”

“They had no reason to detain him. We’ve been following the rules of this country. We are doing things the right way. That’s why we have a lawyer.”

Their attorney reports that a detention facility in Dover, New Hampshire is currently holding Juan. On May 7, he will have a hearing.

Galvez Sniffin insists that her clients ‘were within their rights’. She told NBC, “My clients were within their rights, they were very respectful and following and exerting their rights and stating their right to remain silent and stating their right to have legal representation and they were met with brutality. They were met with violence.”

Mayor Jon Mitchell of New Bedford has spoken out about the issue and denounced ICE’s conduct.

He penned on social media, “The incident raises questions that require clearer answers. Recently, ICE appears to have broken from its long-standing practice of alerting our police department ahead of planned operations, a decision that poses safety risks to officers, ICE agents, and the public alike.”

“It also may preclude opportunities for local police to help deescalate tense situations like this last one.”

Mitchell continued by saying that the Trump administration should provide the people with an explanation.
