A Flight Attendant Reveals Why The Answer You Give When They Say “Hello” To You On The Plane Is So Important
There’s a secret that flight attendants are watching out for if you’ve ever wondered why they say “hello” when you board the aircraft.
If you travel frequently, you are likely aware that you are met at the door as soon as you board an aircraft.
There is a more significant purpose for this, even if it may appear to be just being courteous.
The reason flight attendants say “hello” when you board and locate your seat is because it can help them determine whether a customer is ill or even intoxicated.
Flyers frequently consume alcohol before and during takeoff, but excessive alcohol use might endanger everyone’s safety.

Additionally, there is the risk that the intoxicated traveler will be removed from the aircraft or, in the event of a significant incident, the jet may be diverted.
In her TikTok post, Wizz Air flight attendant Iona Iachim elaborated on the reason why flight attendants greet passengers, saying that the purpose of the greeting as soon as you board the aircraft is not only to be kind but also “to check whether or not you are too drunk or sick to fly.”
A fellow flight attendant who works for the low-cost airline in Hungary supported these statements.
“Did you know that your flight attendant greets you not only out of politeness?” the cabin crew member wrote as a caption over video of Rania giving an announcement in flight.
They meet you “to check whether you are too drunk or sick to fly,” Rania disclosed after a few seconds of suspense.
According to industry norms, flight attendants seek out “able-bodied passengers” (ABPs) who may be able to assist with “evacuating the aircraft.”
Because they say “hello,” the flight attendant does not find you beautiful and does not want to take you out on a date. This has disappointed some TikTok users.
“I always thought it was my devastingly good looks and awesome personality. Now I’m heart-broken,” one person said.
Another stated: “I came home from Vegas drunk with my cousins and I was so shocked they even allowed us on the plane.”
In addition to this welcome, flight attendants watch out for the reverse by assigning specific customers to an exit row.
People with physical and mental problems, the elderly, and children are unlikely to be placed here since they could make an evacuation more difficult.
