According To Police, Gene Hackman And His Wife Betsy Arakawa Had Been “Dead For Some Time” Before They Found Them
According to a warrant, Gene Hackman and his wife were discovered dead in different rooms after being there “for some time.”
The famous actor and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 63, were discovered dead in their Sante Fe, New Mexico, home earlier today (February 27).
Hackman, 95, has long since departed from the film business and was best known for films like Enemy State, Superman, and The French Connection.
In addition to the famous couple, one of their three pets was discovered deceased.
Since then, Elizabeth, Hackman’s daughter, has come forward to say that her father, Arakawa, and their dog are thought to have perished from carbon monoxide poisoning.
As additional details regarding their untimely deaths become available, investigators have disclosed that Arakawa and Hackman were discovered in different rooms.
While his wife was in a bathroom near a space heater, Hackman was discovered in a mudroom, according to the Associated Press.
Pills and an open prescription bottle were strewn across the bathroom counter.
A search warrant issued by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office revealed this information.
Furthermore, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, Denise Avila, attested that neither Arakawa nor Hackman had any wounds, including gunshot wounds.
It is believed that they had been dead for a while, depending on how long they had been there. Mail Online claims that the pair was partially mummified.
Their deaths are still being investigated.
Following Hackman’s passing, tributes to him have been pouring in from all across Hollywood.
Star Trek actor George Takei said of the late 95-year-old: “Gene Hackman could play anyone, and you could feel a whole life behind it. He could be everyone and no one, a towering presence or an everyday Joe. That’s how powerful an actor he was.”
American filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola added: “The loss of a great artist, always cause for both mourning and celebration: Gene Hackman a great actor, inspiring and magnificent in his work and complexity. I mourn his loss, and celebrate his existence and contribution.”
Elsewhere, Spanish actor Antonio Banderas wrote on Instagram: “A very sad day for… cinema’s family. Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa have passed away.”
“My deepest condolences to friends, family and cinema lovers. RIP.”
