Off The Record
After More Than A Decade, Michael Jordan Sold His House A Lot “Cheaper” Than Expected
Ten years after being advertised for $29 million (£22 million), Michael Jordan’s property sold for a fraction of that amount.
Listing agent Katherine Malkin of Compass Realty told NBC Chicago that the six-time NBA champion’s Highland Estate, located in a northern Chicago neighborhood, has been sold. It was last listed for $14.8 million (£11.73 million).
The listing stated that the ultimate price was only $9.5 million (£7.53 million), and it closed on December 10.
Jordan’s 32,000-square-foot estate, which was first offered for $29 million, has been up for sale and down for the past 12 years.
Then, starting in 2015, its price plateaued at $14.8 million.
The listing read: “NBA Superstar Michael Jordan’s seven-acre estate is as legendary as His Airness himself.”
“The 56,000 square foot property, equipped with every conceivable luxury amenity, is a physical monument to his tireless dedication and hard work.”
“The custom-designed property includes a regulation-sized basketball gymnasium, circular infinity pool, putting green, tennis court, and cigar room, each with Jordan’s signature touch.”
The estate costs $148,000 (£117,000) a year in taxes and contains nine bedrooms and 19 bathrooms.
Jordan moved into the house in 1994 after initially purchasing the property in 1991 while still a member of the Chicago Bulls.
Jordan has sold other properties in the last few years. The NBA legend made $6.82 million (£5.4 million) in 2023 when he sold his opulent Chicago condo.
The house was a three-unit complex spread between the 39th and 40th levels of the building.
Jordan agreed to pay almost $3 billion (£2.38 billion) to a company headed by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall for the majority of the Charlotte Hornets the same year. His tenure as the NBA’s majority owner lasted 13 years before the sale.
