Before Hollywood ‘Throws’ Her Out Again, Ellen DeGeneres Is Leaving: “After My Netflix Special, I’m Done”
Before Ellen DeGeneres’s daytime television empire collapsed due to accusations that she created a hostile work environment, she had previously been fired from the entertainment industry.
Recently, while on Ellen’s Last Stand, her farewell and comeback tour, she considered her 1997 coming out as a lesbian to be her first failure.
She remarked, “Next time, I’ll be kicked out for being old.” “The triple crown: old, gay, and mean.” The next time, though, won’t come around. DeGeneres intends to depart from Hollywood prior to being fired once more.
During a Q&A session in San Francisco, she informed the crowd, “This is the last time you’re going to see me.” “I’m done after my Netflix special.“
Later this year, the mid-May announcement of the special will make its way into the streaming site. It will be her first since Relatable in 2018 and her largest public appearance since The Ellen DeGeneres Show’s 19-season finale in 2022.
“To answer the questions everyone is asking me, yes, I’m going to talk about it,” she said in a statement released along with the announcement.
Since the start of her tour in June, DeGeneres has discussed it at every stop. Last week, several of her scheduled shows were canceled without cause. She stated in a rushing bit while driving, “Let me catch you up on what’s been going on with me since you last saw me.” “I own chickens.” Oh, and I was fired from the entertainment industry for being cruel.
DeGeneres acknowledged being “demanding, impatient, and tough” during the performance, but she insisted, “I am many things, but I am not mean.” As far as she is concerned, to be cruel is to have behaved maliciously.
A number of reports by Buzzfeed News in 2020 refuted this narrative and portrayed the talk show host as a small component of a much bigger issue.
Numerous employees reported allegations of racism, sexual misconduct, and intimidation by executive producers across various publications.
In the aftermath, three prominent producers were let go, and DeGeneres apologized live on television.
Although the accusations “almost impacted the show,” DeGeneres told The Hollywood Reporter in 2021 that they weren’t the main reason she was terminating Ellen: “I wouldn’t have returned this season if that was the reason I was leaving the show.“
