Kevin Costner, 69, Shows His Great Look At Cannes Film Festival
On Tuesday night, Kevin Costner spoke with Jimmy Kimmel on his experiences as a father to numerous children.
He brought five of his seven children—Annie, 40, Lily, 37, Cayden, 17, Hayes, 15, and Grace, 13—to the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival this week in the south of France to talk about Horizon: An American Saga. He posed with them on the red carpet.
Kevin also acknowledged that it was difficult for him to keep track of them, saying that he thought he should have a “tour director” for them.
“I wanted them to see me work. I got them tuxedos, I got them dresses,” the actor told Kimmel.
His two sons started fishing as soon as they arrived, making the most of their trip. “The minute they got there, my two sons went fishing. … My three daughters ended up on a boat, and said they’d see me around three or four o’clock … and then I get a call and they were drinking drinks at this point, so they cruised in about eight.
‘I said, “We came to France to be as a family.” They go, “It’s working great dad. What do we do next?” I said, “I don’t know. We need a tour director to figure that out.”‘
The 69-year-old veteran of Yellowstone National Park was spotted posing on Sunday with five of his seven children from two separate marriages.
They posed for pictures on the red carpet with Papa Bear in the centre, all decked up for the premiere of his new film, Horizon: An American Saga.
From his first marriage to Cindy Silva, there are Annie and Lily. Joe, Costner’s 36-year-old son from his first marriage to Silva, wasn’t there.
Cayden, Hayes, and Grace, his youngest children, as well as the children of his former spouse Christine Baumgartner.
Liam, the 26-year-old son of Costner and Bridget Rooney, was not present at the red carpet event either.
After nearly 20 years of marriage, Baumgartner filed for divorce from Costner a year ago.
She moved on with Josh Connor since then. Additionally, Kevin seems to be dating Jewel, a rock and folk musician, though they haven’t made their relationship official yet.
Variety reports that Metropolitan FilmExport has already bought the two-part series Horizon, ahead of its Sunday Cannes presentation.
Starring are Jena Malone, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson, and Sienna Miller.
As the nation is split apart by the Civil War, the film series centres on a family that falls in love with the Old West. Sunday is the global premiere of Horizon: An American Saga at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
His GQ interview, which he discussed about his son’s involvement in the film, was released on Monday.
“I felt time slipping,” he stated about his son, “He’s now 15.”
“I thought the window was closing on me being able to be an effective part in that movie. And so I basically burned my ships.
“Like Cortés, we’re f***ing here. I’m going to make this. And I mortgaged property. Now do you get it?”
He added that he personally invested $38 million on the films.
“I guess I could buy apartments and I could buy McDonald’s and I could buy a bunch of things and just grow, grow, grow, grow…”
“That’s the message I want my kids to understand about who I am: that I do what I believe in. I have fear like everybody else. I don’t want to be humiliated.”
He also mentioned how his marriage to Christine had failed.
“Very serious stuff. And those things are very important. I have to deal with them,” he told GQ.
“And I have to deal with them on a daily basis, emotionally, historically almost. And then there’s the immediate needs of children. I’m not going to list the things—I’m going to stop right there with them. That is my job, looking at that, and dealing with that.”
“I’ve taken big bites out of life, life’s taken big ones out of me, right?” he continued. I’m not going to lose myself because I’ve been bruised. I have been, but I’m not going to lose myself. And what I’m going to do is—because we are now after the white whale, okay?”
“So I can’t let go of this rope no matter how much my heart’s on the ground, no matter how broken I may be on a daily basis, I can’t let go of this rope because if I do, this thing called Horizon will stop.”
“And Horizon’s not more important than the other things in my life, but I do have a level of responsibility to those guys that invested with me, to the people that believe in me, to the people that want to work all four of these, and are willing to postpone other jobs on the hint that I might work.
“And so it doesn’t matter how much water’s hitting me in the face, I can’t let go of the rope that is this thing.
“Pull. Don’t just fing hold on. Pull the f***ing rope too.”
Yellowstone is still ongoing.
There are no firm plans to conclude the story of ranch life, even though the show is only halfway through its fifth season.
Costner, who plays TV’s top show’s patriarch John Dutton, gave some insights to GQ on Monday.
The Oscar-winning actor insisted that he promised showrunner Taylor Sheridan he would assist in wrapping up the series, but he has never received a screenplay.
Furthermore, Costner hinted that he and Taylor have a “private” reason for not moving forward, which may be related to their differences about how the show should conclude.
However, the actor—who is currently promoting his film Horizon—said that he wishes to see the Dutton saga come to a close for the benefit of the “audience.”
The Paramount Network revealed that Yellowstone had already begun production on the conclusion of season five and was already filming in Montana, only hours after Kevin’s interview surfaced.
November 2024 is when the show is scheduled to return, as was originally announced.
Since its 2018 debut, Yellowstone has drawn up to 10 million viewers.
In the series, Costner portrays John Dutton III, a man who employs murder to maintain the stability of his family and business and battles to save his ranch. Because of this, he has been likened to a Godfather figure.
There has been discussion that Kevin is too busy, demands too much money, or has too much say to finish the programme, even though it requires a conclusion.
He has now admitted to trying to GQ.
He remarked, “That’s kind of my Western ethic.”
“I’ve been quiet about the whole thing and I’ve taken a beating out there. My castmates are confused. The crew was confused.”
He disclosed that he only worked on Horizon since he felt he could work on Yellowstone and Horizon simultaneously and he wanted to work more.
“I’ve always wanted to do this movie,'”Costner said, “and I was doing Yellowstone. I love Yellowstone.”
