Bruce Willis’ Wife Emma Gives New Heartbreaking Update On Dementia
Bruce Willis’s diagnosis of dementia was made public earlier this year, according to his family.
After the actor’s diagnosis, they have been doing everything in their power to support him.
The most recent update on Willis’ status was given by his wife, Emma Heming, and it does not seem good.
Actor Bruce Willis, 68, is currently being cared for in large part by his wife, Emma Heming Willis.
After the actor was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year, she recently spoke out about the “slim treatment” choices available to him.
Aphasia was diagnosed as a problem for Willis last year.
Willis’s family issued a statement following his diagnosis explaining that he will be leaving the performing industry because of the condition. However, the actor was recently diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
Recently, Emma brought up a documentary she had seen on the challenging treatment of patients diagnosed with dementia.
Little Empty Boxes is a documentary about Max Lugavere’s experience documenting his mother’s diagnosis with dementia.
Clearly moved by the video, Hemin stated, “Max chronicles his mother Kathy’s battle with dementia while he educates himself on everything he can do to help her. His love for his mother is powerful. His motivation to find answers from leading health experts is inspiring and then being so gracious to share that information is a true blessing.”
According to the ex-model, “It would be an absolute disservice if this documentary is not on a screen near us soon. Thank you Max for being so brave and vulnerable to share the journey and spotlighting the importance of brain health. When you live the world of dementia you know that options are slim. But some won’t take that lying down which is how change is made and I got to witness the beauty in that last night.”
Heming’s kind words obviously moved Lugavere, who responded to her message. To which he replied, “I’m so proud to be in this fight with you,” he referred to her as a “warrior.”
Changes in personality, compulsive conduct, and trouble communicating are all symptoms of frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
Bruce’s diagnosis and the family’s response to it have been discussed openly.
In February 2023, Willis’s five daughters, Demi Moore, and Emma Willis issued a statement on the website of The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.
The statement read, “Our family wanted to start by expressing our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love, support and wonderful stories we have all received since sharing Bruce’s original diagnosis.
“In the spirit of that, we wanted to give you an update about our beloved husband, father and friend since we now have a deeper understanding of what he is experiencing.”
They continued, “Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD)”.
It went on, “Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.
“FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone. For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and because getting the diagnosis can take years, FTD is likely much more prevalent than we know,” the statement read.

The family acknowledged that there is currently no therapy for FTD, but expressed hope that Willis’ diagnosis and their openness about his care would raise awareness of the disease and encourage researchers to find a solution.
