Al Roker’s Latest Health Update—Undergoes Surgery Again

In the past few months, Al Roker has battled a series of health problems.

It appears that the famous Today Show meteorologist recently underwent surgery once again.

Read on to find out the latest in his health status.

After being hospitalized with blood clots in his lungs and legs, Today Show meteorologist Al Roker took time off to recover.

His return on national television after weeks of treatment gave the impression that his health had improved significantly.

The media figure, though, appears to be taking another health-related hiatus. The 68-year-old had knee replacement surgery on Tuesday and is currently recuperating.

After his surgery, Roker uploaded a video of himself walking slowly along a hospital corridor to update his viewers. Roker captioned a photo of himself on Wednesday, writing, “Up and walking this morning on the [new knee] [step by step],” he thanked his medical team and said that he was “wearing a negative pressure pump to help facilitate wound healing.” The band Dire Straits’ song “Walk of Life” was playing in the background.

Along with this, he shared a touching slideshow of himself and his wife, ABC News journalist Dorah Roberts, on their many visits to the hospital over the past few years, with the remark “I’m thinking [Roberts] and I have GOT to stop meeting like this.”

“Yes. And we will,” his wife replied.

The ABC News reporter’s wife uploaded a few photos from her husband’s recent hospital stay and captioned them, “Wednesday wonder. Part 2 of health journey for my sweet [Roker],” Roberts wrote. “So grateful for [the] talented medical team who got him back on his feet with a new knee and new sense of confidence after such a major challenge. Moving forward with [grit, gratitude, and grace]. Humbled by all the good wishes and [prayer] and the blessing of good [health care].”

The newsroom great is recovering nicely from his recent illness. Roberts’s state of health was described as “very, very critical” by his wife at the time.

She had been experiencing a series of health problems and described them as “one of the most exhausting and difficult things I ever had to cope with.”

Roker has been married to Roberts, who is 62 years old herself, since 1995. They have a daughter named Leila and a boy named Nicholas.

The ABC reporter expressed hope that no family ever has to go through what they did, but said that the experience had taught her something.

In the end, she realized that “you can step up and do whatever you need to do.”

“My whole family, after the crisis subsided, we almost collapsed,” she explained. “We didn’t realize the adrenaline rush of running and gunning every day to look after him. I didn’t appreciate how tough it was until the fog had started to clear and the dust was starting to settle. That’s when I realized how hard it was. Get it done, get him well, take care of him: That was my goal.”

Roker claims he is “more passionate” about his career now than ever before and has no plans to leave.

Roker said that his dad quit driving buses when he was 55 because he no longer enjoyed it. But working on the Today Show has been and continues to be a great experience for Roker. He exclaimed, “I cannot tell you how much I look forward to it. Every day is a different day and our audience who comes down to the Today Show, our crew, our producers… How do you give up something like this?”

We’re overjoyed to see Roker walking again. We hope to see him back on our screens very soon, and wish him a speedy recovery.
