9 Lessons by Confucius That Will Inspire You to Flip Your Life 180°

Confucius, also known as Kong Qui or K’ung Fu-tzu, was a Chinese philosopher, teacher and political figure.

His teachings focused on creating ethical models of family and public interaction and setting educational standards.

After his death, Confucius became the official imperial philosophy of China, which was extremely influential during the Han, Tang and Song dynasties.

1. Good things take time to happen

It is easy to hate, and it is difficult to love. This is how the whole scheme of things works. All good things are difficult to achieve, and bad things are very easy to get.

Try not to dwell on the negative aspects of any situation. Be more open to positive ideas because then you would be able to think about the solutions for a given problem. Be patient when waiting for something good to happen or when trying to achieve a certain goal.

2. Your friendship choices are important

Never contract friendship with a man that is not better than thyself.

The people you surround yourself with matter a lot in the development of your personality. They are critical to your happiness and help in making crucial decisions. We cannot choose our family, but we can choose our friends, so do not surround yourself with deceitful people who stick around only for their own benefit. Instead, surround yourself with people who make you be a better person and inspire you to do better.

3. Do not quit and give up

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

If you are tired, learn to rest rather than quitting the journey altogether. Your persistence is what you need the most while trying to achieve your goals. Keep going, and if you need help, simply ask for it from the people around you. Do not hesitate from talking to close friends or family members because their perspective can be much more helpful than you might think.

4. The past is in the past

To be Wronged is nothing unless you continue to remember it.

We all have been wronged at some point or the other, but if we keep clinging to that experience then we cannot appreciate the good things in front of us. If you have been wronged, try learn from it. Do not inflict the misery on others. Broken people break others and that’s how the world is impaired. Do not wrong others and find ways to heal in a healthy manner.

5. Always give your best and your all

Wherever you go, go with all your heart.

If you keep doing things half-heartedly and with no real interest, you might as well leave it and go to sleep. Give your best shot at everything, job, relationships, hobbies. The good for nothing attitude is not very attractive and not very healthy for you also if you really want to achieve your goal.

6. Control and watch your temper

When anger arises, think of the consequences.

We all say and do things in the heat of the moment which we later come to regret. Whenever you feel angry with something or someone, think of the consequences. In every argument comes a little moment of pause and if you are smart enough, you’ll be able to make the best of it and not let your anger or theirs ruin everything.

7. Make adjustments

When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.

If you can’t find a solution to your problem, try different trial and error methods. Don’t try to shift things according to your convenience. Shift your approach to things.

8. All of us are teachers of each other

If I am walking with two other men, each of them will serve as my teacher. I will pick out the good points of the one and imitate them, and the bad points of the other and correct them in myself.

You will receive a life lesson from every one you meet in life. Their experience, life, sufferings, achievements should work as a lesson for you to learn a thing or two from.

9. Prepare yourself

The expectations of life depend upon diligence; the mechanic that would perfect his work must first sharpen his tools.

You should prepare an approach to your goal before actually beginning the journey. Plan it as best as you can and be prepared for surprises that life can throw at you! Whenever you are prepared and ready, you will handle things better if and when they do come up.
