Woman Shares Chilling Memory Of Domestic Attack That Left Her Without Sight

After her violent spouse doused her eyes with chemicals, a woman was left terrified for her life.

Heather Cornelius decided to share her story of domestic abuse on her TikTok page, which she created in 2024. In October, she posted her first video, which has already gained over 15 million views and gone viral.

In the video, Heather talked about how her husband, with whom she had been married for more than 11 years, had abused her for years.

She called herself a ‘severe case’ because of an instance in which her lover poured chemicals into her eyes, causing her eyelids to’melt off’.

“I believed I was going to die,” she recalled of the horrific moment. Heather went on to need five reconstructive surgeries as a result a result of her husband’s attack on her.

The altercation occurred in November 2022 when Heather attempted to leave but returned home after receiving threats from her spouse. At that point, he gave her the order to lie down, and he launched the chemical assault.

Speaking to PEOPLE about the harrowing incident, Heather said: “My back was turned and he told me, ‘Lay on the floor.’ I didn’t ask anything, I didn’t try to resist. At that point, when he told me to do something, I did it just to get it over with.”

“So I did what he said. When I looked up, I saw that he had blue gloves on and a white container. I tried to sit up, he pushed me back down. And he started pouring something in my right eye.”

According to Heather, who is believed to have been residing in Kansas at the time, the suffering she went through was beyond description.

“I was begging for him to stop and screaming,” she continued. “I don’t know how I made it through. I swear, God allowed me to leave my body for a moment to survive.”

“He told me if I wasn’t quiet, he was going to kill me. So I went quiet, and then he started pouring it in my left eye. And then, he was done.”

After being blinded for several months, Heather eventually needed surgery to seal her right eye.

Then, in May 2023, her spouse was arrested but later released from detention. Later, as police worked to compile evidence against him, he moved to Alaska.

But regrettably, Heather never received the justice she was due after learning of her husband’s passing in November 2023.

Heather claims that despite her struggles, she is now in a good position.

“I feel like I’m probably in the best head space that I’ve ever been in,” she said.

“I have a regular therapist, my kids are in therapy and they’re doing great in school. I bought a house and I did it on my own.”

“I look forward to waking up every day,” she continued.
