Trump And Melania’s FIFA Appearance Sends Internet Into Meltdown
The Trump Family and the Chelsea players were involved in the FIFA Club World Cup final, which made headlines both on and off the pitch with jeers, embarrassing situations, surprising PDA and more.
Chelsea FC and Paris Saint-Germain, two European football teams, faced off in the FIFA Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium on July 13, 2025. But not all of the action that made headlines took place during the game. View the pictures of the final’s standout moments.
1– Donald Trump Booed at the FIFA Club World Cup Final
At the sold-out FIFA Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Donald was in the spotlight as Chelsea lifted their trophy, but not everyone was happy to see him.
Throughout the occasion, the U.S. president was repeatedly greeted by loud jeers. The first was when he was seen on the video boards in the stadium while the national anthem was playing.
This time, the anthem was played just before the game started, in accordance with the president’s attendance, as opposed to earlier games when it was performed far before kickoff.
The audience reacted with prolonged jeering as the cameras captured him standing for the national anthem. Later in the evening, when Donald and FIFA president Gianni Infantino went to the pitch to present the competition’s trophy, individual prizes and runners-up medals, the jeering started up again.
Ultimately, Gianni stepped off camera but Donald stayed in full view as Chelsea captain Reece James raised the trophy amid the festivities as the FIFA and U.S. presidents jointly brought it to the Chelsea players on stage.
As the American president remained on stage, the audience once again expressed its disapproval with booing.
2 – The Kiss Between Melania and Donald Trump
Another moment in the VIP suite upstairs garnered notice as the match was taking place below. Melania and her husband were seen kissing on camera. Donald leaned in to give the first lady a cheek kiss while standing next to the FIFA president and his spouse.
3 – Donald Trump Lingering on Stage with Chelsea Players
The players themselves were visibly confused by the president’s presence during Chelsea’s post-match celebration after the jeers.
Football player Cole Palmer saw Donald was still standing with Chelsea on the podium as the team got ready to complete the traditional trophy hoist. He turned to captain Reece and said, “Wait, wait, what’s he doing?”
As the U.S. president grinned and applauded with the players, Reece asked, “Are you going to leave?” Gianni eventually intervened to usher Donald off the stage.
Cole later explained, “I knew he was going to be there, but I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand where we lift the trophy. So, I was a bit confused.” Reece added, “I thought he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay.”
4 – Public Criticism Over the President’s Attendance
In addition to being jeered, many people online were upset that the president had gone to the soccer game at all, particularly considering the current difficulties in the United States.
Social media erupted with criticism. One person commented, “He already forgot about Texas…” while another wrote, “At a soccer game when everything else is going on in the country.”
Another netizen shared, “He should be in Texas feeding the people that lost everything.” Someone else added, “States are on fire and [he’s] watching soccer.”
5 – Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson’s PDA
Donald Trump Jr. and his girlfriend, Bettina Anderson, were attracting attention of their own before the game even started.
While waiting for the president and first lady to arrive at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey prior to the final, the couple was captured on camera exchanging numerous PDA moments.
Clad in matching white button-up shirts, the couple hugged and kissed one other without seeming to notice anyone else. Unfazed by the public situation, Bettina continued to hold Donald Jr. in her arms as they shared tender looks and kisses.
Donald Trump and his family’s participation at the FIFA Club World Cup final made news at almost every step, from PDA and jeering in the seats to confusion on the pitch and online condemnation.
