Teen Charged in Shocking Track Meet Killing — His Dad Finally Speaks
Following his son’s arrest for allegedly stabbing fellow 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a track meet in Texas, Karmelo Anthony’s father has spoken out.
On Wednesday, April 2, Anthony and Metcalf were both at the track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, when a fight broke out. According to the Frisco Police Department, the dispute “between two students resulted in one stabbing the other.”
Hunter, Metcalf’s twin brother, was also there at the event and attempted to save his brother; nonetheless, the teenager’s injuries ultimately led to his death.
Following the confrontation, Frisco Centennial High School student Anthony was taken into custody by the police and accused of first-degree murder. At the time of writing (April 4), Anthony had been placed under arrest and no bond had been reported.

Andrew Anthony, Anthony’s father, has now defended his son, calling him a “good kid” who was provoked, in his own words.
Speaking to The New York Post, Andrew said, “Everyone has already made their assumptions about my son, but he’s not what they’re making him out to be. He’s a good kid. He works two jobs. He’s an A student, has a 3.7 GPA.”
In the incident that resulted in Metcalf’s death, Andrew continued, stating that Anthony “was not the aggressor” and that “he was not the one who started it.”
“I feel bad for the other parents and family, and words can’t explain how both [families] have been affected by this tragedy,” the father added.
Hunter Metcalf stated that he “didn’t see the stab” but called the incident “senseless” in a different interview with WFAA.
“I don’t know why a person would do that to someone, just over that little argument,” stated the man.
According to Hunter, his brother requested Anthony to leave their school’s tent at the competition, which sparked the altercation. This altercation occurred over ‘a seat’ at the stadium, according to the New York Post.
Hunter said of his brother, “I tried to help him,” adding that while he was being loaded into the ambulance, the medics had to “yank” him off Metcalf.
The’most amazing kid’ is how his mother, Meghan Metcalf, has characterized her 11th grader at Frisco Memorial High School.
“So smart. He had college football guys looking at him to play in college. His goal was to play in college,” she told WFAA.
Following the meeting, the Frisco Independent School District issued a statement calling the occurrence a “unprecedented situation.”
“Frisco ISD shares in the grief of everyone impacted by this heartbreaking loss, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the victim’s family, students, staff, and our community during this difficult time,” said the school district.
