Single Mom Takes In Abandoned Baby, But When She Took Another Look At His Bracelet She Was Shocked

Katie Page chose to start a whole new life after her marriage ended when she was in her early 30s. She changed careers, moved to Colorado, and chose to foster a child. She had trouble getting pregnant, but she always wanted to adopt.

One year, Katie was told by a dispatcher about a 4-day-old boy with no name who was dropped off at the nearby hospital.

The court took away Grayson’s birth parents’ rights after they had cared for him for almost a year. Katie officially became Grayson’s mom on his 11th birthday.

Katie loved being a mom so much that she planned to wait a couple more years before having another child.

But Katie heard from another supervisor not even a month after she adopted Grayson.

But Katie was newly divorced, living alone, and trying to figure out what she wanted to do with her life just a few years ago.

Katie left her marriage in her 30s and chose to start over.

One, she bought a new house to settle down in, and the other, she changed jobs.

Then she got a strange email from her priest one day. He told her that she might be interested in adopting a child, since she had trouble getting pregnant in the past but had always wanted to adopt.

Katie was interested, but she didn’t rush things. To begin, she went to talks about the foster care system and learned as much as she could about it.

Katie realized she really did feel called to foster through one of the talks.

Katie was ready to adopt and raise her own child after lovingly taking in four kids at different times.

In 2016, Katie was told by an investigator about a 4-day-old boy who had been dropped off at the hospital without a name.

Katie took in the boy she named Grayson as a foster child for a year while social workers tried to find his real parents.

But nobody ever claimed him.

At this point, she had fallen deeply in love with Grayson, so she did feel a little better.

The court took away Grayson’s birth parents’ rights, which meant Katie could officially adopt him on his 11th birthday.

Katie’s life took another huge turn not even two weeks later.

Katie got a call from another supervisor about a very bad situation. A baby girl who had just been born had been dropped off at the same hospital and needed a home right away.

Katie felt scared and exhausted, but something inside her told her to let this beautiful girl into her life.

“I know over the next 10 minutes and subsequent phone calls I made that afternoon, the phrase ‘I know I am crazy, but God is telling me to say YES’ kept coming out of my mouth.”

After several hours, Hannah was dropped off at Katie’s house and made friends with her and Grayson.

Now Katie saw the name on Hannah’s baby band; it was the first name that Hannah’s birth mother had given to the hospital. It was also the name that Grayson’s birth mother had given to the hospital.

As Hannah looked over her release papers, she saw that the birth mother had the same birthday as Grayson’s birth mother.

Was it just a strange turn of events?

Katie was a little worried that her two new adopted kids, Grayson and Hannah, were connected, even though they don’t look anything alike.

Katie wrote on her blog, “Grayson is half African American and has beautiful dark skin and dark curly hair.” “Baby Girl has a pale white skin tone with straight red-blonde hair.”

In her quest to find out the truth, Katie tracked down Hannah’s real mother. Katie knew right away that she was looking at the birth mother of her son as soon as they met.

The woman told Katie that she had given birth to a boy before Hannah.

A DNA test proved that Grayson and Hannah are actually half-siblings.

“What if Baby Girl had gone to another family?” In her blog post, Katie asked. “We would have never found her or Grayson’s mother. The connection would have never been made!

“I could not believe the miracle that had just happened.”

Katie finally took Hannah in as her own in December 2018.

“That day I said ‘Yes’ to taking the Baby Girl I felt the strangest feeling ever. I don’t think I had truly until that moment felt a undeniable calling from God (or whatever higher spirit you personally might believe in).

“My brain was telling me to say ‘no’ because it made no sense and was not in my plans, but something inside kept saying you have to say ‘YES’. It is a sheer miracle, once in a lifetime chance… call it what you will, but it is amazing that my children found each other.”

Katie now wants to adopt a baby, this time a sister for Grayson and Hannah who is 5 months old.

Katie really wants and prays that she will be able to publicly welcome their little brother Jackson into the family this year.

“I am constantly taking leaps of faith and building my wings on the way down,” Katie adds.

“I am sharing my passions and loves along this crazy journey that God has blessed me with.”
