Simulation Reveals Earth’s Catastrophic Collapse If Oxygen Vanished For Just 5 Seconds
Although five seconds may not seem like much, the consequences of the Earth losing all types of oxygen for that long would be disastrous, according to a terrifying simulation.
Although oxygen isn’t the most prevalent gas in our environment, it’s nevertheless significant—and not only for us—because it makes up 21% of the atmosphere, which is made up of 78% nitrogen.
Life as we know it depends on oxygen, but wouldn’t we still be okay if it vanished for just five seconds? Particularly considering that the majority of us are probably able to hold our breath for longer than five seconds.
That couldn’t be further from the reality, though, as a widely shared simulation film has shown what would happen to our planet and to us if oxygen disappeared for even a brief moment.

The ‘What If’ YouTube channel posted a simulation in which the narrator said that while your breathing would stay the same, everything else would be altered.
‘Instantly collapse’
Because oxygen plays a crucial role in the binding process of concrete, anything composed of the material would “instantly collapse.” This means that any buildings constructed of concrete would be weakened and could collapse.
Fused together
Because a layer of oxidation in metal that stops them from welding together would be eliminated, any “untreated mental” would also fuse together.
No-zone layer
People who are out and about should prepare for “instant sunburn” since oxygen is necessary for the ozone layer, which shields us from the sun’s extreme UV rays, to function.
The simulation continues: “In addition to sunburn, our inner ear would explode. Losing oxygen means losing 21 percent of our air pressure, and losing that is the equivalent to being at sea level and dropping down 2,000 metres instantly. Our ears wouldn’t have enough time to adapt.”
It’s raining planes
Additionally, without oxygen, there would be no fire, only non-electric cars would be operating, and aeroplanes would instantly plummet from the sky.
You also have the minor issue of the Earth’s crust, which is composed of 45% oxygen, totally disintegrating.
Lights out
The skies would likewise be enveloped in total darkness. This is because our atmosphere becomes less effective at dispersing sunlight when oxygen is depleted, sending us into the dark.
Sunlight normally bounces off particles, including oxygen molecules, when it enters our planet, but naturally, this would stop abruptly.
Texas Process Engineer Geoffrey Widdinson elaborated on this crazy situation.
He said, “In terms of breathing, we probably wouldn’t notice. Our bodies can’t detect oxygen deficiency, we can only detect high carbon dioxide levels. As long as CO2 isn’t building up in our blood, we don’t feel like we’re suffocating.”
“Actually, it would be disappointingly undramatic.”
“The phenomenon of a hundred million cars stalling at once would get some attention, and people monitoring air pressure would notice the blip there, but we’d never figure out the cause and eventually just shrug it off.”
However, you can relax knowing that this will never occur.
