Shannen Doherty’s Mother Speaks Out About Her Daughter’s Death Following The Release Of Their Last Public Image

Thinking back on her daughter, Rosa offered a heartfelt eulogy. “She is my beautiful girl and my heart,” she expressed in a statement. “Our family wants to thank everyone who has shown love and support for Shannen throughout her life. We are truly appreciative.”
Shannen’s publicist confirmed her death, marking the end of a courageous journey that inspired many. “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” said Leslie Sloane.
“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace,” Leslie continued in her statement.
Shannen made her farewell public appearance, spending a calm evening with her loved ones. The actress was strolling in Malibu, California, with her mother Rosa and her old friend Chris Cortazzo.
The three of them had just had dinner at Kristy’s waterfront restaurant, which was a calm location with lovely views. Unknowingly, the scene set the tone for one of Shannen’s last public appearances.
The trio is shown in the pictures having a great time and exuding genuine warmth and friendship. Chris stood between Shannen and her mother, his arm encircling Shannen in a protective manner.
Rosa and Chris were dressed similarly in black tops, and the three of them were wearing jeans casually. Shannen chose a short-sleeved gray cardigan with a black cap that was both simple and fashionable.

Chris and Shannen had a close relationship. In a previous episode of her podcast, “Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty,” the two friends had a candid discussion during which Shannen discussed information regarding her funeral preferences and will.
The two pals said throughout their conversation that they wanted to never say goodbye. Chris made a joke about dying before Shannen, but she swiftly told him that, as the executor of her will, it was not an option.
“That’s not happening. Dude, you’re the executor of my will. You control everything when I’m dead,” Shannen said. She made it clear that she wanted Chris to look after her mother when she passed away.
Shannen also humorously mentioned she only wanted three attendees during her funeral: Chris, her mother, and her dog Bowie. She explained that this list came to mind when she faced brain surgery in January, fearing she might not survive. She said she didn’t want her funeral to be a somber affair but a celebration of love, a joyful gathering akin to a party.
The actress, who is most recognized for her part in “Beverly Hills 90210,” was initially given a breast cancer diagnosis in 2015. She has been transparent about her health issues ever since. She talked about how her late dog, Bowie, had a remarkable sixth sense regarding her health problems. This was prior to her receiving a breast cancer diagnosis.
The native of Tennessee recalls how her dog would constantly smell her right side. It was also the side that subsequently showed evidence of malignancy, providing an early warning that something was wrong.
Bowie’s conduct changed after her diagnosis and during her treatments, which included chemotherapy and surgery, to become even more protective. Shannen called her dog’s presence “crazy protective,” saying that it made it hard for her to interact with other people. This demonstrated their strong relationship.
Shannen’s mother, Rosa, bestowed on her a strong spirit. The “Beverly Hills 90210” actress shared in a moving interview from November 2023 how her mother’s brain aneurysm diagnosis when Shannen was only eight years old gave her a fighting spirit.

Shannen remembered her mother’s words at the moment, highlighting the fact that giving up was never an option. She attributed her strengths to her upbringing and said she had always been a warrior.
Shannen was a big supporter of her loved ones during her own health struggles. Rosa, her mother, was a constant source of motivation and advice. She acknowledged that her mother had influenced all of her decisions and expressed her sincere thanks for her influence.

Shannen revealed in an April podcast session that, despite her chronic health issues, her mother remained her primary concern. Rosa would find it really tough, the late actress said in her expression of concern for her.
Shannen went on to say that she didn’t want to give her mother any extra work, like having to deal with several storage units full of furniture.
Shannen disclosed that she had begun to go through her possessions and had given up on her goal of having a home in Tennessee as a result. She acknowledged that giving up this ambition was an extremely difficult and emotional journey. It seemed as though she was giving up on her dream of creating a home and property for her mother and herself.
