Scientists Analyze 117-Year-Old Woman’s DNA To Uncover Food Linked To Long Life

Scientists have examined the DNA of a woman who lived to be 117 years old and have discovered the one thing that she consistently ate that gave her such a long life.

This meant that after his birth in March 1907, she had to endure two world wars, 21 American presidents, and over a lifetime of technological developments that have changed the globe dramatically since her birth.

Before relocating to Catalonia in 1915, where she spent the remainder of her life, she was born in the United States. She even survived the COVID-19 pandemic at the beginning of this decade, which is amazing given that she got the virus herself.

Astonished by her own extraordinary age, Maria requested that specialists examine her DNA to determine the cause of her longevity. They discovered that it was a combination of factors, with one particular food item possibly playing a major role.

Samples taken from her blood, saliva, urine, and feces showed that she had an unusually strong genetic profile that she did acquire from her parents, something that most individuals aren’t fortunate enough to receive, according to LADbible.

She was just a spring chicken of 100 by the time of her death, indicating that her biological age was actually about 10 to 15 years younger than her actual age.

But in addition to regular exercise, a healthy social life, and abstinence from unhealthy habits like alcohol and smoking, Maria’s love of yoghurt appears to have played a significant role in her remarkable health.

Doctors have attributed her improved immunity to the fact that she apparently drank her favorite Spanish brand, La Fageda, three times a day for years.

In addition to eating a smoothie made with eight different cereals for breakfast every day, this may be the reason she has been able to fend off numerous illnesses over the years that would otherwise be fatal to someone her age.

“The conclusion is that the clues for extreme longevity are a mix between what we inherited from our parents and what we do in our lives,” explained Dr Manel Esteller in an interview with The Times, adding that “this mix, the percentage depends, but it can be […] half and half.”

Therefore, adopting as many healthy habits as you can, like eating yoghurt like Maria, would undoubtedly help you live a longer life, even though your genetics do play a big role.
